Description: The R Speed MINI Cooper exhaust system is hand crafted in Germany under stringent quality and material controls to R Speed's specifications.

The system offers precise fit and finish for an easy direct bolt on installation. It has a mellow, yet civilized European performance sound along with increased performance and drivability without annoying resonance boom found in most other MINI exhaust systems.

This system is fully polished and provided with all necessary hardware and instructions. It is finished with R Speed's signature Double Roll Tip with MINI etched into the finish. Weighs 24 lbs.

Pros:
Cons:

I\'ve written a lot about this excellent exhaust in various posts, but figure I ought to summarize a bit here as well.

Looks: The tip looks a lot like the stock tip, so it\'s hard to detect visually unless you look at the can itself hanging a bit below the bumper apron. The stock can is dull silver/gray while the RSpeed (like most) is polished stainless. It looks great...if you like that sort of thing - I would prefer the can itself be painted a dull black - I\'m about to take care of that myself.

Power: Cat back exhausts for the MC don\'t generally improve tq or hp by much, but the RSpeed does better than most. The Helix system (for example) is pretty well known, in part because of its top-of-the-line showing in Grass Roots Motorsports\' shootout, but that test occured in late \'02 (I believe) and the RSpeed either wasn\'t available at the time or was simply overlooked because it wasn\'t included. I haven\'t yet seen any completely independent dyno tests on the RSpeed, but the few sheets I have seen show it improving hp as well as the best and producing the best tq curve I\'ve seen yet.

There are really only two other obvious benefits to an aftermarket exhaust change for MCs: weight savings and (hopefully) improved sound. Since the MC has only one can, there\'s not a huge amount of weight savings available.

The most noticeable change then tends to be sound - in quantity and/or quality. \"Improvement\" in this area is highly subjective - I may like what you hate and visa versa - but I can at least give you my (subjective) comparison between the RSpeed and both stock and the Helix system I had for a while.

Sound: The RSpeed sounds FANTASTIC to my ear; PERFECT for an MC. I drive an MC so power (though plenty for me) isn\'t the main reason I find myself grinning nearly every time I really get into it. In fact I think the sound - tq/hp combo may be as grin-inducing to me as the MINI\'s world-class handling. Also, ZERO DRONE!

Sound compared to stock: Quality: much better at all throttle levels. You\'ll love the burble. Quantity: near stock level at idle and while behaving yourself - quite a bit louder as you open the throttle.

Sound compared to Helix: Quality: I love the way the Helix sounds...it\'s a toss-up. Quantity: The Helix was too loud for me almost all the time. I even had a ridiculous incident with one of my neighbors one night (about 2 am) when I had the car idling in my garage...he called the police to complain about kids racing a loud car through the neighborhood \"disturbing the peace.\" I often saw people turning their heads a block away to see what was coming when I pulled away from intersections, etc. The RSpeed is much milder most of the time...volume increases at just the right rate along with the go pedal!

I purchased mine directly from Peter at RSpeed in March of 2003 (probably one of the first dozen or so sold in the US) and I\'m still grinning.
