MTH Cartune offers a ECU remapping service that can be performed using a PC or notebook computer. With a serial cable using a commercial ISO9141 adapter you can connect to the OBDII port on your MINI, retrieve the software mapping, email that mapping to MTH Cartune, and have returned a modified mapping which you can install.

Pros:
Low cost, can return to stock, and you can get new tunes to match the latest mix of mods.
Cons:
Iffy support and no documentation
Purchased September 2004
I love that you keep getting tunes as you continue to mod your car. I don\'t like that there\'s no list of what can be programmed, you kind of just have to ask to see if Franz can do it.
You need to buy or borrow a cable. I used Mono-com from
Some people had problems with serial ports (I among them), but once you\'re through it once, it\'s as easy as pie! I\'d give it a 10 if there were a list of parameters available, and if the support were a bit more professional. But I\'ve paid for results, and those I appear to have gotten.

Pros:
CHEAP, customizable, and it WORKS
Cons:
requires laptop and cable
Bought October of 2004.
You cannot get any better hp to dollar ratio. Dynos have shown an average of about 9-10 hp and a little less torque increase. No matter what mods you have, you can get the software customized to take full advantage, and if you add mods, you can simply get a new map for free. You know those pesky black dots that get on the boot (the unbrunt fuel and oil) well those are a pain and in the @$$ to clean off and this gets rid of them (by making the Air to fuel ratio better). It is well worth the money.

Pros:
Easy and affordable
Cons:
Be careful where you buy your cable from
I would say this is the easiest way to get more hp out of your car. I added this to my MC in early Feb 05 to get a little more power out of my lightly modified car. I can say the changes are there, the car accelerates better and gas mileage has increased slightly. When driving on the highway I notice acceleration to of changed greatly. I don\'t have any dyno sheets or any scientific graphs but can just tell from me knowing my car.
The only problem I had which is not MTH\'s fault was getting the cable to get the job done. The shipment on the cable took almost 4 weeks and had me worried. Other then that my MTH ecu flash went perfectly. I have since put about 600 miles on the car since flashing the ecu.

Pros:
It outright works, customized to your desired tune, price that is well below the competition
Cons:
no support at all, requires a specific cable...
No support maybe, but the mth chip just flat out works, after the re-map is installed i did feel a seat-of-the-pants difference. i brought mth for the reason that it costs less, i mean i cannot lose throwing 75 bucks on a chip that would\'ve cost me well about 600 for any other brand. I am not looking for any real difference, but the mth did make an impact... highly recommend to the do it yourselfer.

Pros:
excellent upgrade in engine runnability
Cons:
none
I have only this and a 15% pulley for upgrades, but the v7 Tuner files added more low-end torque and power than the pulley. More than worth the money, even at their new pricing.

Pros:
It's sweet, plus all of the good things everyone else said
Cons:
Don is the man to go through for MTH. Email, get files, install, notice the difference. Worth every cent in my opinion.
