Description: The Alta Performance intake system pulls cold air from the factory air ram duct in the front grille and through the vent below the windshield. This is the currently (as of 12/10/05) the only aftermarket intake system that is fed a constant supply of cool fresh air.

The Alta system pulls cold air from the air ram duct in the grille and through the vent below the windshield. The box is sealed to the underside of the hood and prevents under hood heat from entering the intake air stream. The filter encapsulated in a fresh air bath. Reducing inlet air temperatures will create a cooler, denser air charge raising HP, and torque.

The Alta Performance air box is formed from cold rolled steel. Laser cut and CNC bent to perfection. Power coated for protection and an O.E.M. look. The new air box top will fit perfectly into the bottom of your factory air box. The box will be sealed to the underside of the hood and prevent under hood heat from entering the intake stream.

Alta's high flow foam filter reduces intake restriction and increases the surface area from alta performance air filterwhich the engine can ingest clean air. Unlike cotton and gauze type filters, foam filters allow for multi layer filtration. The ALTA Performance foam based filter will trap dirt within the filter at many different levels. This allows for better particulate restriction and will not reduce HP as the filter gets dirty.

OPTIONAL INLET HOSE - The rubber inlet hose connecting the air box to the throttle body can also be replaced. The factory part is corrugated and ribbed on the inside. Turbulence is created and air flow velocity is reduced, compromising throttle response and upper end HP. The Alta silicone hose is mirror smooth promoting a high velocity air charge. This silicone piece is available in high gloss blue, red and black to dress up the engine bay.

Pros: well thought out and easy to install
Cons: a bit on the loud side at wide open throttle

Purchased at August 2004 Pulley Party in Connecticut from Webb Motorsports.

Just when I thought there could be no improvement in the way this car accelerates,BANG! (thanks to Emeril!).I have replaced the foam filter with a K&N cone type filter, and I must say I like the moderation of sound ,without experiencing any diminishing of performance.

Pros: +hp & unique sound of air being sucked in
Cons: Some people hate the sound

Excellent intake. I only wish the intake filter was available in more color options (like the silicone hoses are) upon ordering.

Pros: the power and the sound
Cons: I have to clean it

I have their pulley, intake, intercooler diverter, short shifter, and short antenna. I feel all were worth the price.

Pros: Gains in HP, MPG and sound
Cons: There is an annoying whistle

I got this to replace a filthy stock air filter, intsall took about 1/2 hour MPG increased from 23 to 32 MPG w/in two weeks and I poncue on the throttle much more now that I can hear more engine noise. I ended up with a silver not black heat shield, not as stealthy as I would have originally hoped it to be but still fits nicely with an otherwise stock engine. Price seemed about the same from any dealer, so just make sure to call ahead and that it is in stock. I added a black silicone hose with the inital mod, the black really benlds in and was easy to install thanks to Randy Webb's instructions.

Pros: Great sound, Fit & Finish are good/great, well thought out, high quality
Cons: Air filter looks like a big red Q-tip, would prefer a grey filter or something less boy-racer.

I am using the Alta. It's been on for a few weeks now (about 400 miles) and so far so good. For me, I like decent power gains, a good fit & finish, good looking products that work well with the existing hardware and a decent price.

Based on the above, I probably would have gone with the JCW intake (which i do really like the factory look of) but the price was an issue, as was the price of replacement filters. I know that Helix offers them for cheaper often, but my CAI was on my christmas list, easier to say go to this www & order.... Mine was purchased from Coast to Coast in DE, and i will be shopping with them again...they made it very easy for my wife in a busy holiday season.

I received mine before the webb unit was out. I don't know if I would have picked the webb one or not. I know they all work *about* the same, I just don't love the looks of the webb one. (Plus, his does not offer the larger intake tube yet.) Don't really love the look of the big red Q-tip either, but i can't see it when i am driving.

I considered the HAI, it looks like a great bang-for-the-buck. However, I wasn't thrilled with the placement of the filter with regard to any incoming water. And, I really didn't want to half-a$$ anything. This is my first new car, and (thankfully!) I am in a position to do a few tasteful mods the right way. (I grew up DIY, did a DIY turbo miata, and i have learned that sometimes the hassle isn't worth the monetary 'savings')

Anyway....

Fit & finish are good to great. It took me about an hour to install (must add that i had all the tools and i am pretty good with them) The seal that alta supplies to go around the new box was a bit short, need to contact them to get me a new one. Other than that, no issues. All parts were there, easy install using randy's online instructions.

I find that the Alta makes the car feel like it's breathing easier (well no *****! Not a huge seat of the pants power booster by itself, but a little less restriction when you get on it. I will be adding a pulley in the next 3-6 months (most likely a 19%) and i think that the combo of the two will really help in the power department.

It does make a bit of noise, but nothing offensive to my ears. (My wife does not care for it as much, but that's why she has her own MINI!
There is some whistling on light throttle tip in, and there is a bit of a roar when you really get on it & the SC is really spinning. For me, I like it a lot, I came from a DIY turbo miata that you could hear everything in. While the MINI does offer a bit of mechanical noise, I like what the Alta adds to the table. Again, it won't be for everyone, but it works for me. It's something that can be covered by the stock HK sound system rather easily.

Overall I am satisfied with the Alta CAI and I would purchase it again. Now i just need to add a little more exhaust note to balance it out...

cheers!

Pros: Well constructed, accentuates the infamous whine
Cons: can create a minor lag in acceleration without proper tuning

Great product. The intake is well constructed, as fit and finish is perfect. Install is simple, everything fits appropriately, no special modifications necessary for proper fitment. Really accentuates the infamous whine that our supercharged Mini's are notoriuos for. IMO, the second loudest intake ever on the market, surpassed only by the AGS. Gives a noticeable power increase during WOT, however it can create a slight lag in acceleration when stomping the gas. This can be easily corrected though with an ECU upgrade/flash.

Pros: Performance, looks, easy installation
Cons: Supplied instructions seem somewhat incomplete, and B/W photo illustrations are very hard to read.

I just got through installing the CAI on a warm Denver afternoon. My friend and I (4 hands were very useful) took about 2 hours to complete it, but we wasted a lot of that time trying to figure out how to install the box cover; we finally gave up, as the instructions weren't very helpful, so I'm going topless for the moment. Two other issues left unanswered by the instructions are how often should the filter be cleaned, and what products are recommended to do so. Overall, I was pleased with the install, and a quck run around the block suggests lots of added kick.

Pros: Cowl Cold Air Induction
Cons: ECU box cover has to be left off in order for optional ALTA CAI cover to fit.

Fantastic CAI, this 2.0 version is awesome. A tight fit up against M7 STB though. 10 thumbs up!
