Pros: good stuff
Cons:

got their super stubby antenna and 0% lightened crank pulley both top quality. Inherited their version 2 pulley too didn't need it but it is a very well made tool.

Pros: Everything is very well developed and tested!
Cons: sometimes sooo good they're always on back-order :P

I have a few things from Alta on my R56 MCS, Turboback exhaust, turbo inlet hose, boost tubes, short throw shifter, rear sway bar, rear endlinks and front innercooler air diverter... i can honestly say i have absolutely NO complaints what so ever about any of their products and am also pleased to say that with just my turboback and boost tubes as power mods (turbo inlet hose doesn't do much with stock intake :P) i was able to dust an R56 JCW Factory car ( probably a new owner cuz seemed a lil uncertain in shifting) from a dig... granted the JCW R56 is a glorious car! i'm not bashing them at all... i'm just saying that Alta Power Mods WORK! with fantastic fit and finish and you seriously do get what you pay for! couldn't be happier wtih what i have!

Pros: Quick Shipping and Easy to Navigate Site
Cons:

I have had an Alta Panel Filter in the past but now have a CAI. My Stubby looks great, and I just ordered hoses the other day and have already received them.

Pros: Customer Service
Cons: Product Design

They have amazing customer service always ready to help and assist you with whatever you need. However the quality of design on their products is subpar compared to other companies. They FMIC for the R56 they make does not fit properly and the CAI they have pushes a tube behind it out to the point of not being reconnected. It's just frustrating knowing they could be perfect at what they do and it feels as though they may cut some corners.

Pros: Great website, Shiny products
Cons: Poor Customer Service & Product Design

I purchased a number of items from Alta during their big get together Feb 2008 and have since De-Alta'd my R56 Mini. I spent over half a year trying to return my defective Turbo-back exhaust system because it has a sub-par catalyst in the downpipe & throws check engine lights (p0420). Don't let the lack of other negative reviews fool you, I was threatened with no parts/no rma/no service if I posted on NAM about this problem. In the end they would only RMA the downpipe and stuck me with the cat-back portion. At our local dyno day, not only did my R56 w/ the turbo-back not make the claimed power, but it produced 12hp less than another R56 with only a Militek cat-back. I did gain 2whp when I removed their "free-flowing" panel filter. Their website has since been updated to warn customers that they're SOL if the downpipe produces a CEL. Altas warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Pros: 17" Konig Feathers
Cons: Poor customer service by ALTA

Please see my posts on the 17" Konig Feathers from ALTA. Terrible customer service and they took 2 weeks to give me my money back. AND they had the nerve to have ME pay for the initial shipping of incorrect wheels with no rings. I'm a FORMER customer.

Pros:
Cons: false advertising and poor customer service

During there end of year sale ALTA had their 15% smaller supercharger pulley for $75 stating "if you find one for less someplace online forward us the link and we will match it" I had found a brand new alta pulley that someone had sold on eBay for $33. I sent Alta the link and screen print of the pulley.

Alta replied "I am sorry but we cannot pricematch ebay auctions. If you find our 15 percent pulley advertised at a store for lower please let us know!" even though this is clearly not what it had said on there website further more after I had sent them this email they had changed their advertisment to "If you find one for less someplace online forward us the link and we will match or beat it. (EXCLUDES AUCTION SITES AND GARAGE SALE ITEMS)"
Alta refused to offer me any sort of deal on the pulley and basically told me tough luck. I am very disappointed with service, and will most likely never purchase anything from this vendor.

Pros: Pretty appearance
Cons: Poor quality and defensive customer service

I agree entirely with n1tr0 in his comments above. I purchased multiple alta parts and they continue to fail or malfunction one by one. Two products were even installed by alta. The remaining alta parts were installed by a professional and experienced Mini mechanic exactly per the provided instructions so there was no installation error. Promised fixes for one malfunctioning part did not work or were never completed. Promised refund(s) for other malfunctioning/broken products were not honored; after I returned one broken product in person, I received a refund on my bank credit card but my bank had no record of the transaction/refund. Out of roughly seven other Mini vendors I have purchased products from, this is the ONLY company whose parts and service failed. In fact, alta, in my experience, has turned out to be the worst company I have dealt with in 48 years. Overall, I believe most of the parts I purchased were rushed to market before they were tested enough to discover the defects of design, materials, and fit.

Pros: None
Cons: Poor customer service, Poorly designed products

I have purchased multiple products a couple of times from them. They cannot be trusted to deliver on their promises and you have to call them many times to follow up otherwise there will be no return calls.

Their products just are not designed properly and when they fail even within 6 months, Alta is nowhere to be found. Worst products are their boost tubes and exhaust. They still have not addressed rubbing issues that will create holes.

They have become the discount k-mart of aftermarket Mini parts suppliers. Even with their 50% off sale prices (which happens quite often), you still have gotten ripped off.

Pros:
Cons: Parts do not fit correctly

I bought a CAI for my R53 and the silicone hose that goes from the throttle body to filter housing is not even close to fitting correctly. First I had to cut about 1/4" off the top and it still seems to need more trimming it does not sit on the throttle body flush. The outlet for the crankcase breather hose points toward the firewall instead of the passengers side like it should so fitment was junk..

Pros: None
Cons: Fit, Quality, False claims, Attacking the individual when losing argument.

I post this as a warning not to buy ALTA products. The fit and claims are not what is advertized. Requests for returns are not honored, moreover the hard sell for more of their products when return items are questioned. I purchased: intake, silicon hoses, full exhaust, chip and intercooler in a effort to duplicate the published dyno results.

When parts did not fit and need addition fabrication, I provided detail photos and marked instructions feedback back to alta.

Although the did not claim it at the time, Alta dp was advertized not to cause codes such that the CEL would illuminate, but mine (and everyone else’s) did throw codes after 50 miles. I have been promised a new part but it has never arrived.

Since that time: The harness to the ECU has failed, silicon hoses have failed, intake bracket weld has cracked. Alta has been un-responsive for recall or returns I've chosen to warn others of my issues.

So after 10 posts Jarid finally acknowledged that I was a customer having issues. An Alta retailer (posts freq) has attacked me (and others whom posts negatively about Alta) personally, my ability to correctly install Alta products, a " buyer beware" since I was installing aftermarket parts I should have known there would be problems, It's not alta fault ( the DP manufacture is to blame, so is the cable for the ECU and finally that it's Mini Fault because the tighten the specifications) and fabrication is part of the fit process (although not listed in Alta instructions). It difficult to take professional criticism for a vender whom profits from the sale and installation of Alta products. Alta was advised to "return my $" just to shut me up.

Pros: Great experiences with Alta
Cons: N/A

I purchased Konig Feathers from Alta Jarid. He made sure that I was happy with my purchase and when one of my wheels arrived damaged from UPS, made sure that it was picked up. He reshipped a 5th wheel before the 4th wheels was even scheduled to be picked up.

Now 9 months later, my hubcentric rings are anondized to my rotors. I contacted Alta Jarid and he sent me a new pair of plastic hubcentric rings at no charge to my residence; I had asked him how much they would be to purchase and he emailed me back with a tracking number - he took care of me and I will certianly use Alta in the future.

Pros: Great service, good fitment of parts, well designed parts and directions easy to follow
Cons: none

Picked up my 02' Cooper S in November; started looking around for ways to make it my own. 60,000 mile maintenance came up and bought the following from Alta:

Ignition pkg (msd coil, cold plugs, racing wires)
V2 cold air intake w/ box top
15% pulley, came with replacement belt and tensioner stop.
free rental on puller tool

Mechanic wanted way to much $$ to put new parts on and claimed his insurance only allowed him to work with parts he sourced so i decided to do the work myself over a couple weekends.

Ignition: Overall very easy to install with directions included. for the coil glad to see the new bolts came along as oem bolts wouldnt fit. also, directions were good to inform of not overtightening coil bolts as it doesnt take much.

intake: straight forward, again good directions and good fitment, i like more sound so provided good sc whine at wot. drove this for wk or 2 before installing 15% pulley.

15% pulley: jacked up car and began this work on a saturday; car overall is tight in the engine bay so was a bit challenging to unbolt motor from chassis and jack up. the hardest part of this install was to get the old pulley off the sc shaft. Was using the alta pulley removal tool but no matter how hard i pulled on it it wouldnt move so i called alta and they got one of their techs on the phone (after hours, about 6pm) and they gave me some good advice to really crank on the tool and that would work; so got the strongest friend i could find over and we got the sucker off.

Install of alta pulley on shaft was straight forward with good instructions; the hardest parts was getting the motor mounts back in place but eventually got it back in with the new pulley, belt and belt tensioner in place. had a bit of belt squeel initially but went away after some street driving.

overall, i bought my parts all together during the st pattys day sale so saved a good amount of dough there and the customer service was real good. very pleased with the way the car turned out.

not from alta i put in royal purple oil, replaced engine mounts and did the powerflex bushings, new cabin filter and a good coat of wax and am loving it.

suprised im still getting high 20s mpg city and got close to 35 mpg on recent long roadtrip where i was averaging 75 - 85 mph on highway!

Pros: Fast order processing with excellent communication
Cons:

I bought some Konig Feathers, and a stubby antenna from Alta. They processed the order same day! They also sent automated email notifications with order details, tracking, etc.

Nothing negative about this transaction. However, I bought Konig feathers in black, and the wheels come with shiny chrome-like plastic center caps. Not Alta's fault... nothing that a couple coats of Plastidip couldn't fix. Stubby antenna is nice, and solid.

Overall, I think Alta was fast, reliable, and had excellent product knowledge. Their friendly sales staff was able to answer all of my questions.
