Description: This is the recently introduced smaller design of the PU hood scoop in standard CF. You might see I like hood scoops, as I also have the M7 scoop in CF reviewed here too, but this allows for making comparisons between the 2 of them. First, the link at the bottom of this description section is to the product description on the PU website, while the link under "website" below is to the PU website page where the NAM price is located for a $69 savings. This scoop is also available for less money in fiberglass, as well as for more money in silver CF (and if I understand correctly, the silver CF may turn a bit yellowish from excessive sun exposure). Second, the scoop is now available in both a badged version (a gold Palo Uber decal, as pictured here), as well as an unbadged version; as you can see in the photos my initial purchase was BEFORE the unbadged version had been made available (for all I know it may have been my comments to PU about the badge color and placement that created this option) and I am at present waiting for a replacement of my original one, since I decided the unbadged version would fit the color scheme of my Mini better, as well as I found the PU signature decal looked a bit off-center when juxtaposed to the Mini bonnet emblem (and if the decal came in silver and could be positioned by the end user, I think that might be an enhancement for PU to consider, as you can see from my review of the M7 scoop I was able to achieve the exact effect I wanted by doing that with their scoop). Third, I cannot attest to the claims made by either PU or M7 about the improved IC air-flow provided by their scoops, but both would seem to definitely enhance that factor; whether one is superior to the other on such score I will leave to other enthusiasts to test. Fourth, both the PU and M7 scoops pretty much require that the stock diverter that is attached to the bonnet underside be removed entirely, which is pretty easily done (seriously, very simple, no matter how inexperienced you may be, and it is not needed with either scoop). Fifth, I tend to like the overall profile of the M7 scoop on the car better than the PU, though I think PU did a better job with this scoop in integrating it to the bonnet-line than with their original "the scoop", which to me was way too big and unattractive; also the CF quality of the PU scoop seems superior to the CF used on the M7 (and it may be the difficulty of obtaining high-quality CF that caused M7 to discontinue production of theirs) and I think it gives a much richer look (the PU site claims it is aircraft quality CF; all I can say is it looks great). Sixth, I prefer the method of attachment to the hood of the PU scoop compared to the M7 scoop; as I said in the M7 review, M7 graciously addressed and professionally repaired my problem with their underside bolts (they come down from the scoop and go through the bonnet openings and are affixed with nuts from the underside), but the PU scoop has threaded metal sleeves embedded into the underside of their scoop and the bolts go up in through the openings of the bonnet underside into these threads, which seems to make for a superior attachment (but only time will really tell). All in all these are both fine products, but each had their own minor issues to overcome (as many after-market items are prone to have). I hope that I have given an accurate reflection of each scoop here, so what is important to any potential purchasers can be gleaned from these 2 reviews.

Pros: CF quality appears to be everything claimed by PU
Cons: slightly higher price; some may not like the higher profile

For reasons of symmetry/coordination (with the Mini bonnet emblem) and of coloring (the PU badge is gold, while the Mini bonnet emblem near it is silver & black), I prefer the un-badged alternative.

Pros: badge or no badge alternatives
Cons: more expensive, but within reason given the high-quality look

I finally received the un-badged alternative and it looks great out of the box. Now, for the real test; I'll try to get it on this weekend and take some photos, then post them here, so you will get an idea of the difference.

I'm still waiting for someone who will spend their $300+ and saw one in half just for the sake of confirming what is on the inside. I believe there was a thread that said or speculated that this very impressive looking piece of CF was not CF through and through. ANyone enjoy burning money?

I'm extremely happy with the New Carbon Fiber Hood Scoop by Palo Uber, Not only does it have a more aggressive look to it, it was also much easier to install on the car. I've received many compliments with the Slick Carbon accent on the hood. Also, I've enjoyed building a relationship with the guys at Palo Uber. They have been great with helping me get the look I want and any questions I may have along the way.

Pros: awesome look! colder intercooler
Cons: expensive

i like the look of the palo uber badge on the scoop so i actually debadged my mini. The carbon fiber is awesome! it is true carbon fiber, none of that sticker-wanna-be-carbon-fiber. after a race i can get out and slap my hand down on the intercooler which i never wouldve dreamed of doing before. (i do have the alta ic air diverter w/ sprayer also) but it really makes a mini look mean! highly recommend it if you feel like droppin that kind of money on looks!
