Description:
|
This Short Shift Kit dramatically improves the feel of your shifts, while allowing you to quickly adjust throw and height.
You can change the throw in seconds from zero for the girlfriend to 50% for yourself or anywhere in-between.
Preferred by track racers as the ultimate "tunable Short Shifter" he advantages of a shorter throw are well documented, but the leverage required by the driver is increased as the throw is shortened. Now you will not have to give that kind of effort during a traffic jam.
Hybrid designed and CNC machined from 1144 "stresspruf", black oxided steel and 6061 Aluminum.
The stock knob fits perfectly, but the Craven Speed Short Shifter will also accept aftermarket knobs, including Whalen Shift Machine.
Select "Dec 2003 and Newer" if when you pull up the plastic ring around the shift boot and the main shift housing is black with a white retaining clip. Part# CR-MC-0018
Select "2002-2003" if the housing is white with grey retaining clip. Part# CR-MC-0017
The cutoff is build date of 12/03 for the 2004 and newer kit. The production date is noted on the label of the inside door jamb on the drivers door.
Knob and Shift Well sold separately.

even on lowest setting still a bit sloppy, kit needs to incl metal bushings
|
|
had danny at minicorsa install this in dec 2007 - so i'm doing this review now 13 months into ownership. ssk has always been on lowest setting - doesn't pop out! shifts are good, but as mentioned in neg aspects - lack of replacement metal bushings means some existing slop in the play. have had ssk in other make/model with metal bushings and the shifts are amazing. it's the primary thing that keeps this ssk from being >7.

Pros:

I like the look and feel of the SSK and Well Cover
|
|
Cons:
|
Well cover dust shield should be a bit more flush. There is a fair amount of noise and air that come through the well without the dust shield underneath the car.
|
|
I am very happy with this SSK and the well cover. Great customer service.

Installed the Craven Speed Short shifter and NM Shifter Assembly Box Cover at the Mini of Dallas DIY Day for the Metroplex Mini Club and wanted to share my results after testing it out in the city and on the twisties.
• When shopping for short shift solutions it was not very clear how the Craven Speed worked, leaving the impression all it did was lower the shift knob by shortening the upper shaft. “Not true”
• When adjusting the shifter from stock to a shorter stoke (downward) the whole shaft slides through the privet ball downward creating an adjustable cantilever. “Very clever design”
• You can adjust the shifter from the driver’s seat in seconds, in the up position you have factory stock height and stroke but better because the upper part of the shaft has about a half inch bend aft ward so the reach is improved in the full up stock position and also a very natural reach in the full down (short shift) position.
• In the full down position you have around an inch stroke from center to gear or around two inches from gear to gear with a very smooth and positive feedback of gear engagements (no more miss shifts) . In all out full acceleration through the gears the difference is significant with the shorter shift lag times and quicker turbo boost recovery noted on the JCW Relative Torque gauge.
In summary, is it worth the $280 for the Craven Speed and NM Shifter Assembly Box Cover? I say yes , because you can have it your way with adjustability, making the already blast to drive Mini ever more enjoyable in the city and out in the twisties staying on top of the power band.
