Description: Replace the leather shift boot in your MINI with this attractive shift well cover.

This is the perfect complement to the Craven Speed Short Shifter. Allows the driver to adjust the shift throw without having to feel around inside the boot and also reveals the great looks of the anodized shifter main pivot.

Keeps out dust and noise and looks fantastic. Fits all new MINIs with all types of shifters. Available in black or silver

Pros: well made, solid,
Cons:

Recently my stock shift boot started showing it's age and small holes were showing up. So I started looking for alternatives to the stock shift boot. After considering some of the available alternatives I chose the Craven Speed cover.

I ordered directly from Craven and it showed up a week later properly packaged for shipping (lots of bubble wrap). The instructions were easy to follow. Unfortunately during the install I managed to tear up the grommet that fits around the shift shaft and holds the black plate in place. I sent a quick message to Kellen asking for a replacement, he responded quickly asking for an address to send it. After a couple mix-ups with the post office it arrived and I fixed my mistake.

Overall the shift cover is a nice accent with my B&M shift kit and a custom Whalen knob. Craven went above the call of duty and shipped me a replacement part for something I screwed up.

Pros: The Shift Well is a cool look & makes that part of the interior less crowded
Cons: NONE

The Shift Well is a cool look & makes that part of the interior less crowded. Is also easier to clean then the stock boot.

Pros: Both the shift well and the Craven short shifter work well and were a great addition
Cons: NONE

The Craven shift well cover and thier adjustable short shifter kit have been one of the better mods to my 2006 Cooper S. You will need to leave the cover off of the linkage box under the car to be able to use the full travel of the adjustable short shifter. The adjustment on this shifter is great ... you just turn a small knob to adjust up or down with no wrench needed.

I would highly recomend these modifications.

Pros: Streamlined look, easy install, solid construction
Cons: Tolerances, Symmetry

I've always hated the stock shifter boot/ring setup; the bend in the leather at the base, the too long boot and whatnot always seem ill-refined and lacking some sort of aesthetic "precision." I had been looking for the Audi-TT shift boot to work with for awhile, but it seems those are in short to no supply, so I went about finding a gated setup when I stumbled upon this...

Good:
The plate itself is heavy, thick, durable, and coated with a UV-stable anodized layer. Very nice. A spring fits over your shifter stalk, over which then fits a grommet & plastic plate assembly. The spring pushes the plastic plate up against the underside of the metal plate (fixed to your console ring), leaving no gap around the shifter stalk, and moving with the stalk. Good idea as well. All in all the assembly is pretty un-remarkable as far as function and form...it does what it says, and looks as it does in the pictures.

Bad:
The hole cut into the metal plate is shifted "back" and to the "left," closer to the driver's side when installed. What this means is that your stock shifter, when in a neutral (non-gear) position, is not dead center in the hole, but rather closer to the right of the cutout portion of metal. Wouldn't be a problem I'd think, but when shifting into the high gears (5th + 6th), the grommet around your shifter will actually touch the edge of the cut-hole. When in reverse however (the opposite furthest point), the grommet stays nearly a cm or so away from the cut circle. Call me a stickler for symmetry, but it'd be nice if distances from the edge were maintained, either when in neutral or in reverse/high gears. 2nd is the fact that the grommet lips don't extend quite far enough onto the plastic circular piece to prevent a gap from forming at all times. Nice and snug around the shifter stalk, but it seems as though the grommet has a marginal (non-see-through) gap between it and the plastic surround; the gap may only cover a 70o-90o area at any time, so the fit is close to perfect.

Again, very minor gripes I would say, just things I would note if one is thinking about purchasing the product. As you can see in the product rating, I'd still give this a 8.5-9/10; no similar product exists, the pieces themselves are well built and hefty, and the look is streamlined and slick. The only gripes I have are with fit perfection and symmetry.

Good product.
