Description:

After years of waiting for MINI to develop a amrest they've followed through with a fantastic product. The new armrest fits ALL MINI's and is retrofitable to any MINI. A factory option on the 2005 MINI's yet it's a great addition to any MINI that missed it at the factory. Armrest has sliding door to hold smaller items. Whole armrest pivots back to allow easy access to seat belt clip and rear cup holder. Beautiful factory silver and black finish and extremely high quality and precision make this WORTH EVERY PENNY. In fact it's shocking that they got it down to the price they have it at considering the massive list of parts that are included in the kit. Very straightforward install. Looks like a lot of work but it's actually pretty intuitive and anyone with basic hand tools and some common sense should be able to install it in 30 or so minutes. Includes EVERYTHING to install including replacement ebrake console. Existing ebrake boot is reused.
It was well worth the wait. This a fantastic armrest. If it's too pricey or just too plain vanilla for ya, please check out the Out Motoring ARC Armrest.

Pros:

Moves out of the way (lifts up and back)
Cons:
Creeks a little under pressure
--I had this installed at the factory and love it. It is not the strongest armrest on the market but it looks very nice, supports my arm, but creeks if I put a lot of weight on it but it completes the R53 cabin. Bigger people will find it absolutely necessary to comfortably get in and out of the MINI. There is also a convenient compartment that slides closed where you can store things like blue tooth headsets or garage door openers. Very good addition to the interior ~pyratio

Flips up hinge

Lid

Lid tends to open whenever it likes and and then detaches while in the rearmost position. Not a good design.

Pros:

perfect height for me to put my elbow on.
Cons:
doesn't stay closed.
Had it installed at the factory. The lid never seemed to latch properly, so I was constantly sliding it shut. Today it was totally jammed, not quite open and not quite closed; the only way to get it to close was to break it from its rails and then force it back into place! sloppy, sloppy!

Comfortable height, decent padding & conceals small items

Stupid thing doesn't stay closed!
I wish I never would've ordered this armrest when I built my MINI. When it was new, it would stay closed fairly well. However, it didn't take very long for it to loosen up (maybe 6 months). If it would just stay closed, I wouldn't have rated it so low. I don't know why MINI hasn't come up with a factory/warranty replacement. What a disappointment.

Pros:
at least there is an armrest
Cons:
too short for us shorties; keeps opening.
I am 5-3 so I have to have my seat fairly forward. That makes me out of range to benefit from the presence of the arm rest. I do use the small storage area for a pen, change purse and lip gloss.
My also has that electrical doohickie in it that I think is for ipods?
If it is for charging electronics, does anyone know if I can somehow convert it to charge my Android phone? Or Kindle?
