Description: The MINI designers have done a great job with instrument layout, unfortunately like most car manufacturers they have omitted several important bits of information. This information includes the intake boost and oil pressure on the "S" model, and the oil pressure and the oil temperature on the Cooper. The DELUXE kit for the "S" includes an electronic boost gauge with high boost play back memory, and programmable over boost L.E.D. warning light The BMP kit includes 2 high quality U.S. made gauges, mounting hardware, correct sending units for your vehicle, pre-wired plug & play harness, and a full set of illustrated instructions for a quick and easy installation. (Sold as complete kits only. Tachometer not included.)

Pros: High quality gauges, nice bracket setup, oem finish, wrapped up wiring, very ingenious oil pressure tapping solution
Cons: Terrible directions

I came home one night and check out what was going on in eBay and saw an auction for a Promini gauge set going for $200 with 4 minutes to go. Well, I took the plunge and ordered it.

First off, there are several kits out there. Buyers beware!

I got the kit that had a boost gauge that only went up to 15psi. Anyone with a reduction pulley will quickly tap out this gauge. I have learned the hard way.

Luckily, I got the updated oil pressure kit. The older version includes a tapped oil filter housing cap which would just be a right PITA to deal with. Instead, my kit came with a very trick adapter that plugs into the stock oil pressure sender location....allowing you to install both the aftermarket sender and the stock sender.

The boost gauge is of very high quality - it is the $180 electric version that has peak memory (resettable) and warning level. Works great except it taps out all the time.

The oil pressure gauge is also very helpful. You learn so much about how your car runs watching the boost and oil pressure.

Install was rather straightforward, took me like 4 hours to do. Was a right PITA trying to find the grey wire with the red stripe to tap into for illumination but in the end it turned out fine.

Another great thing about the Promini setup is that they have a version for those with the stock NAV....

Wiring was "pre-wired" as much as possible. Directions were pretty poor - photocopies of photocopies of photocopies to the point where it was near impossible to read - and then to top it off what could be read didn't make much sense.

Overall I give it a 9/10 - very cool design, very functional, good quality gauges, but ratty instructions.
