Maybe I should not be so particular about automatic and convertible
If you have ever watched any of the classic car auctions on television one of the best investments these days are classic cars, they're worth more each year.
This is an unusual car in that it has a dealer installed option that was offered in 1958 something called a continental spare. Some owners of TDs and TFs liked the rear mounted spare and asked for it as an option. The car is a 1959 MGA 1500 roadster. The continental spare can be removed and leaves nothing more then a small hole the size of a pencil that the license plate light wire would come through. All original bumper mounts are still there as original if spare was removed. Rear bumper is in excellent condition. So you can have something very unusual or put it back as it was with no marks or unusual features left over, but, you show up at a show with this feature and it will knock peoples socks off.
The car runs great. It's very solid on the highway with no shakes or shimmies, has rebuilt carbs, rebuilt brake cylinders and brake master cylinder and new brake shoes, new fuel pump, new radiator, new tie rod ends, new ball joints, new starter pull switch, new seat upholstery, new rosewood dash installed beautifully over the metal dash. New windshield glass. I had left the windshield off the car in a couple photos but it is back on now, made the car look sleek. Fuel tank was just removed and professionally cleaned out. I can stand outside the car and pull the starter and it immediately fires up and runs smooth with out pulling the choke or hitting the gas. Original engine, heater and heater fan works, all lights work, with turn signals even the little passenger side dash light, all gauges and horn and wipers work. Small split in front left side corner of soft top, has side curtains, nice carpet. Excellent black seats, (not leather) with white piping. Good muffler. 4 excellent tires, bias ply, new spare tire. Extras include original hand crank, tire tool. Car always starts right up and runs great and will idle all day long with out over heating, because of new radiator. Compression is 120 lbs per cylinder.
Two rust spots the size of a coin one in front of each rear wheel on the body, and a few tiny bubbles under paint, mostly because of poor preparation when it was painted a long time ago. The chassis is as solid as a brick. Door sills inner and outer are excellent. Front apron is in good condition. Chrome bumpers (front and rear) and grill are excellent. Doors, bonnet, boot lid all fit well. It has a new 12 volt battery, set as positive ground. Car was painted in the 80s and the paint is fair to good condition with a few peeling areas. I have about 35 photos I can email.
If you look up a 1959 MGA 1500 roadster in the Manheim Gold Book Value Guide you will see them valued at $35,000 to $40,000 in show condition. This is not show condition as my description says. but you can see how the values go on these cars.
Would like to trade up to a low mileage Mini, I'm in Georgia so something in the Southeast is best. The MGA is worth about $14500 but it has long term upside investment potential and I would ad cash. Sacrificing my MGA for a fun car for my wife. I do not know how to ad pics to this post.
