Yes having owned many turbo cars dating back to the 70s starting with my first buick regal and porsche 930 i agree with m3 that until you tune them they will run lean with a factory tune and mods . I wish it was still simple to tune one like the old days with different jets or jacking up the fuel pump pressure.

Well after driving around with the resonator on it, it's still loud. Not as loud as before, but still enough to bug me. I've decided to pull the system off and sell it on craigslist. Going back to stock and hopefully to my original mpg.

Supersprint, way motor works and Nm enginering make beautiful systems that I think would produce the sound you are looking for without a loss in economy.

If going with Supersprint or the way system look at their downpipe and the the nm system you are good to go with the Mini factory o.e.m. downpipe.

The only way to reduce the sounds is to go with a catted dp.
The cattless dp is the source of the volume.

Switching axlesbacks (as I have) won't make a difference.

So the Nm enginering would be the way for vince to go if he wants to reduce volume from riss but increase over stock.

I think your missing my point (and don't take this as an insult; that is not my intent).

The point I'm making is it really doesn't matter what exhaust you choose from the axleback... IF your are using the OEM DP or even a catted aftermarket dp. Granted the catted aftermarket DP will be a bit louder than the OEM.

Example: I had the strat with the OEM DP on for a while and the thing sounded really good. Not to loud at all. And remember, the strat is basically a straight pipe with a resonator (no muffler), 2.75" diameter.

So my point is investing in a bunch of axlebacks isn't gonna make a difference. If the volume of your exhaust is too much (and you already have a resonator and/or muffler)... swap your catless DP for a catted; that's the only way.

I'm not an expert... I'm just speaking from my experience with multiple exhausts I've heard in person and on my car.

I guess you are missing the point, i suggested that vince run the stock oem down pipe and the nm exhaust for a mellow tone yet louder than stock.

The reason i suggested the new axle back is because vince is selling his riss system.

By the way I love the sound of the Riss system.Everyone that stood behind the car when it was on the dyno said it sounded as good or better than any system they had heard before( these guys own turbo 911s,gt2 and gt3 911s and a ford gt)I only have had 1 complaint about sound and that was from my wife(she is 44 ,dont tell her i told you)

My apologies... I didn't realize you had suggested the OEM DP as well. i'd be curious to see his reaction to the Riss with the OEM DP before he buys another axle back.

Vince, did you already try that?

I never had an aftermarket dp. I attached the Riss system directly onto my oem dp, but it was still too loud within the 3-4k range. Under 3k was perfect.

My Riss exhaust was attached directly to my oem dp. Never had any after market dp. By the way, mpg is back to normal now that I have stock exhaust back on.

Myself and many others insist that you will only gain fuel economy from an exhaust with less backpressure. If you insist you weren't trying to mash the gas pedal a bit more, the ECU may have not adjusted to the new system. I always disconnect the battery before doing any powertrain mods and reconnect a while later after installation. The time to leave the battery disconnected to reset the ECU seems to vary car to car.
