Just ordered my oxygen blue cooper

Hi everyone,

Just want to say hi to everyone - I have been browsing NAM for a while but never got a chance to say hello - excellent forum, very informative and helpful.

I finally put a deposit on an 07 MC last week - Mini has always been my favorite car, I know I have made a right decision.

It's scheduled for July production, and I was told it should be in Vancouver last week of August or early Sept, can't wait.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road

Welcome to NAM, good choice, what are your options on the MC?

Pictures would be nice when you get it in late August, you have to be optimistic.

Greetings Old81,

I ordered the Mini Cooper with classic package - I took the classic premium package which includes: Heated seats, Front and Rear Fog Lights - I test drove both auto and stick, picked the manual - the 6 speed is a lot more fun to drive and I get the $1000 govt ecorebate.

I will take some pictures as soon as it arrives

HA! Multiple postings! It wasn't my computer gone bad, there is something with the site! Just had it happen to me a few minutes ago.
Anyway, not to banter or anything, but I welcome you to MINI-dom. Congratulations on the car, so now comes the wait. Good luck with that. You know that time will stand still now right???
I am happy for you, and cant wait to see pictures!

That spec could very well be my choice if ordering a new Cooper now. Mine's an '04 Classic with heated seats so I can relate - kept it light and simple.
Question - is the Oxygen Blue Classic offered with white roof or black?

Just hope the flood won't delay the production

Yeah, my screen went blank and then I got 6 postings, ha-ha!

Actually, the options for Mini Cooper classic is quite limited, only 4 non-metallic colour choice (PW, CR, MY and OB) - same color roof top, a classic premium package ($600), and 6 speed auto transmission with Steptronic ($1390), but the price is really attractive, and I don't need a sunroof, the MC classic fit my needs perfectly.

I was looking at the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Versa, even thought these cars might be cheaper, non of these cars have the look, performance and re-sale value of the Mini Cooper, I am just glad I picked the Mini, it's a long wait, I still have over a month to go :( - I just hope the flood in England won't delay the production.

You can still go back and delete a few copies of your postings...but then not too many people are looking anyways.

A friend of mine just went through this exercise and I recommended she get the MINI Cooper w/Classic package. Only problem was the wait. She needed the car in a couple of weeks as her old car was being scrapped when the insurance ran out. So she went and paid too much for the Fit. I tell you, given the treatment she got from the Honda dealer, I will NEVER buy a Honda at least from that dealer. In anycase, I have to listen to her complain that she wished she got the MINI instead.

You made a good choice.

Hi! I've also been lurking and reading for a few weeks now. I've obsessed about Minis, Morris Minors and MINIs for over 20 years and just ordered my MCS last Tuesday. Pepper White, Sport package and suspension, AT (my brother thinks I'm insane to get a MINI and not know how to drive a stick shift, but the track tests on the Auto came out great!) Let's see, chrome interior/exterior, English Oak, 10 speaker sound.

I stuffed my tall 13 year old into the back seat to make sure he would fit before I ordered the car! We were thinking about a Civic or a Fit. I told my husband if I couldn't have a MINI, I really didn't care what he bought.

Now I'm checking in the Owner's Lounge almost every hour. . .did they change the status yet?

Now I feel like less of a Mini stalker knowing Scoop will be home in CA soon!

Hi,

I almost brought a Honda Fit two weeks ago, even my financing were approved, but I feel the Honda Fit were quite over-priced, for a decent one I will pay over $20K - and the salesman's attitude is buy it or leave it, they say it's so popular and they couldn't keep it in stock. The car look a bit strange without the spoiler and side skirt in my opinion. Later I find out I can get a MC classic for a little more, so I took the plunge, I never regret it.

Not much longer to wait, eh? Are you able to check the status of the car? You are in Canada (we have the Classic packagem the USA doesn't) but where?

If you get the car before Sunday, August 26, join the Vancouver MINI club (if you live in the area) on the Not Quite Harrison Drive. Details on the web site below:
http://www.vancouverminicooperclub.com/

In fact, you don't HAVE to have a MINI to join the drive but you may be stuck in the back if you don't

Also, if you are in the Vancouver area, the club is holding a rally on Sunday, September 30. Details will also be on the club site. That would be a great way to get into the spirit of driving a MINI.

Definitely the MINI is a better built car materials and design-wise. The included standard equipment on the MINI makes it a far better value than the Honda. And the MINI is far more fun to drive I pointed out on some other thread somewhere that if Honda salesfolk stay on their current track, Honda will go the way of the American manufacturers and people will stay away in droves.

At one time I would have said the fit n finish of the Honda is better but the recent cars seem to have slipped a bit in quality of fit n finish. I pointed out, to a friend, an uneven panel gap in his newish Civic Si. He hadn't noticed until I pointed it out and now it just bugs him:impatient .

Can't wait to see pix of your car....next week?

velveteen_mini: I live in Burnaby, my OB MINI should be here in a few days, it was suppose to be here Aug 17, I checked with my MA, he said it should be here next week, I was hoping I can join you guys on Aug 26, looks like I have to aim for September 30th instead, as I have been taking the bus :(

beken: I used to own a 2002 Civic SIR - hatchback, I can tell you Honda's quality has definitely deteriorated, I had a software problem since day 1 - the engine light was on and in safe mode, I couldn't rev above 4000 rpm - if I do, the engine will cut off fuel just like rev limiter. And the dealership doesn't have the equipment to fix it. Also constant front suspension noise due to the new non-double wish bone suspension. Overall not a very good experience.

My MINI finally pasted the 2000 KM mark after just 20 days, the engine & transmission seems more smooth than 3 weeks ago, and the handling is just as tight. So far no problem except the engine consumed about 400 ML of engine oil - I was told small oil consumption is normal for a new car. Overall, I am very happy with it!!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the car. Are you registering for the MINI/Mini rally this Sunday September 30th? (check out the other Vancouver MINI Club website at www.vancouverminicooperclub.com for details.) There's still time.

There is also a Vancouver club drive to Mt Baker with the PSMINI group on Sunday October 7. Info will probably be on the Vancouver web site just after the rally.

Welcome to MINIing.

Hey Mtgperson,

Let's see a 1 month review of your car. Any mods yet? I don't think I've seen you around yet.

Beken,

Sorry for the late reply! It's good to hear from you.

I am very happy with my 2007 MINI, it handles great, looks great (I love the Oxygen blue color) and have adequate power for my needs.

I have several complains, I have the infamous 2nd gear grind, the hard-to-read oil dip-stick, and minor oil leak on front valve-cover and lots of break dust.

My car already had 5000 KM on it!! No modification yet, I was thinking a new set of rims in near future.

Have a great weekend and stay dry

mtgperson

Hmmm...I'm not aware there was a problem with 2nd gear grinding. I do have an intermittent problem with the clutch grinding at start up in first gear, but that seems to have gone away now. You should bring that up for with the service advisor. They may tell you it's normal and there's nothing to worry about, but if something does happen and it's documented that you complained about it already, then it should be covered by warranty. The dipstick, even the previous generation, was always hard to read. Maybe as your car gets older and the oil gets darker, it might be okay. But I still have trouble reading the oil level in my car. Brake dust is a coming issue with all MINIs. Seems the pads MINI uses (BMW pads), work very well, but they also generate a lot of brake dust. Hope you didn't get white wheels. The oil leak of the valve cover is a warranty item. You should ask them to replace the valve cover gasket too.

Pictures?
