Hey all you fellow long islanders,
Just wanted to know if anyone has had any luck getting their windows tinted and it actually came out good. The side windows I'm not afraid of but the back window with the defroster lines gets me worried. THe last car I had that I got my windows done on the car was done horrifically. The cuts were all crooked and had huge gaps all over the place. Maybe I should have taken it back but I was 17 at the time and dumb so thats that. I know there are tons and tons of people that offer window tinting but who actually does a nice job?? Any one with some experience in having their Mini tinted please chime in I'd love the advice. Thanks
Steve

I dunno any third party people that do it (I'm fairly new to LI) but I had mine done at Hassel Mini and it went really well. No bubbles and no problems with the tint over the defroster grid on the back window. It'll set you back about 500 bucks though. I'm just realizing that as I type this that you posted that post late '05. You probably already got your tints, huh...
Thanks for writing back guys...I ended up getting it done at Triumph Auto Glass in Riverhead. Didn't turn out too bad. Only problem was the driver's window had peeled before I even got home cuz of those damn auto roll down windows. I waited for mine and drove it home as soon as they got done (had to leave for vacation that night). But it came out pretty nice and only $150 with three year warranty. Not bad at all. I gotta get back though to get that peel fixed.

If anyone in colorado needs their windows tinted, pleas let me know. I work at a dealer and have all kinds on connections. It should never cost more then $200 or so for any car on the road. If your paid $500, you better have gotten 2 cars and bike done. WOW

Actually.... some tints are worth that much. Huper Optik tints (the installer iirc, might be around LI), costs over $400 for install!!!! I personally shop tints first--- finding the best tint that meets my needs, then find a reputable installer with a decent price.
If you're paying more than $200 for a dye-based tint.... even a reputable brand, say Llumar/Formula-One, 3M, etc....you may have to consider a different shop--- though Top of the Line Tint, in Lodi, NJ is pretty pricey and the various other forums (non-Mini) do recommend their work.
