Tail of the Dragon on a beautiful December day!

Since it was a beautiful sunny day, and we were sort of close, we went ahead and rode The Tail of the Dragon today! Not too much traffic, one other blue MINI going the other way, and thank GOD, no log trucks or other large things, except just past the curve at the Tapoco Lodge, an 18 wheeler was sitting in the wrong lane with no warning flares, flags, etc., and no warning before coming around the curve! No driver in sight, either!

Here's the approximate round trip (most of the intermediate stops are there to force Google Maps to follow our exact route), not counting a stop in Robbinsville for Quarter Pounders with Cheese! Ramona was a great co-pilot, and kept her lunch down with no problem!

Driving back down had a lot of twisty fun, too. In fact, some of the Tennessee back roads would be a good warm up!

I will agree with anyone else who has said it before me: Stay in your lane, and go at a safe pace for you. This is no time to become intimate with a pine tree!

Looks like you had a great day for it. I was down there the end of October & the weather wasn't as good as you had. I enjoyed the ride down 60 from Telico Plains to Copper Hill.

Great tip on forcing Google maps to follow where you want. Just put a bunch of stops in.

The blue MINI you passed was probably me, but I don't recall passing by a PW MCS.

When I'm not at college in Columbus, I live in Tellico Plains. Today I took the Skyway up to Robinsville then back home on the Dragon.

Probably wasn't you, then. This MINI was going the opposite direction toward Robbinsville. We did have the radio on in case we heard another MINI.

We stayed in Tellico Plains years ago. Nice area!

Sounds like you had a great day and great drive.

We will be there in May for the MOTD, our first.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
