Roads to die for
Gross glockner pass ,One of the highest and most scenic routes in Austria.At its highest you can drive up to 2600m at Edelweiss,Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Hohe station is 2400m high overlooking Western Alps biggest glacier The Pasterze.Not far from the Italian Border it can be reached from Salzburg(90 mins) Insbruck (3h 30 mins) and the North of Italy in 3hs.The gateway from north is Bruck near the resort of Zell am See and from the south Heiligenblut.There are 28 hairpin bends all marked with numbers and altitute.Its open from May to October From 6am to 10pm in the summer months.No overnight stay is allowed unless you have pre-paid accomodation.Plenty of parking along the route, especially on the scenic parts with even benches and tables ,cafes and toilets.The views are stunning.
