Evacuation Route

Okay, so in the Gulf Coast states, we all know what that means...keep a box of emergency supplies ready and when a storm gets within 500 miles, pack up a change of clothes and clean drawers and head to higher ground. This year, everyone got swamped and everyone's car took swimming lessons. But last year, that was the Great Adventure. Since I work at a jail, all the certified officers had to shelter at the facility. The civilian population was ordered off the islands. My husband and Mom; the black lab ( 100 lbs.), golden retriever (80 lbs.), and jack russel (20 lbs.); two large suitcases, a large bag of hubby's Star Wars collectables, a box of emergency rations and a twelve pack of beer all packed into Miss Kitty and headed north. :impatient They vacated to Virgina, stayed with some friends and then headed back after a week. Hubby had stopped at more toy stores and collected more stuff ....Mom said even with all that in the back of the Coop, there was still plenty of room to spare. Sorry I don't have photoes of that one, cause I can't believe it myself and I saw it. The only complaint from Mom was not about a 1,200 mile round trip, but that she couldn't get the smell of doggie breath out of the Coop for a month! I guess at the time, it wasn't all that, but now, it's something to tell the grand kids about the "clown car" (as the nieghbors affectionately called it...) that went North for a Hurricane.
