Need help choosing wheel (color) for Jet Black on Jet Black MCS

Ughhh.. seems everytime I think I have found a rim I like I end up back on the fence about the rim AND the color.

So far I have been primarily looking at black w/ polished lip wheels. I like the ASA AR1's, the Enkei J10, and really, quite a few other rims.

But now I need to take a step backwards for a moment. I'm suddenly unsure if I want a black wheel. It seems that if I was moving towards more of a black-out that would be the way to go but I have the chrome package and honestly think the car looks great as-is. If I do de-chrome it, it will be a while when my mind changes.

So, I don't really see a black wheel (even with a polished lip) sticking with the theme of the car. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I have just been staring at wheels wayyy too long

I need some ideas. Hell, I was even looking at some chrome wheels. Silver doesn't quite match with the chrome. Maybe a hyper black or Anthracite would do the job so the wheel wouldn't be quite as dark.

Anyone with black minis wanna post some pics and give me some ideas? Anyone want to speculate with me on this? This is one of those decisions that I want to be sure about. I'm sure you were all where I am at one time

Thanks!

Kirk

IMO, I wouldn't go with chrome. The black with polished or chrome lip always looks great with a black and chrome car. But, have you thought about something totally different like red or gold on the black?

analogy: you know when you wear all black? (or see someone wearing all black) not like a suit, all black as in a black sweater, a black pair of pants, black shoes, and black hat?

the blacks don't match exactly to each other but the overall look is a man/woman in dressed in black. sexy, sinister, mean, classy, refined... so many words describe how it can be portrayed depending on the character of the person.

my point: you will be happy with whatever decision you finally end up with.

mine, full black out:

konky's chrome/silver accents:

wikedgolf's astro black out with bronzes:

you should browse thru the jetblack owners thread too...

Thanks for your reply. Question for you though. I am curious what size the rims are in each of those pics. Now I'm also contimplating going with a 16" rim instead of 17" (what I have on there now). I figure it will look fine after a drop, which it will get at the same time if I can ever decide.

Thanks!

my car's sitting on 16's with 205/45's in that pic, konky's and wikedgolf's are sitting on 17's. if memory serves me, konks was running 205/45/17's and wikeds on 215/40/17s.

lowering the car will look good for either 17s or 16s.
im lowered on coilovers, konky and wiked are on lowering springs. konky's since upgraded to coilovers. i was also on springs but saved up for some coilovers... he and i were both adamant about eliminating front wheel gap.
springs drop the ride but still leave a wee bit of gap up front... annoying to some, nothing to others.

Thanks for the info! Seriously, there are so many posts in this part of the forum about rims I feel like I'm gonna go nuts. I really want to spend no more than about $1300 for rims/tires and the work to get them on and balanced. There are still a significant number of great rims/tires to be had at that price, so the decision is hard. I'm looking at black with a polished lip again though. It's what my fisrt instinct was and I've since seen a couple pics of black cars with those types of rims. The Enkei J10's are priced right and I really like that rim. Several people have them but I guess that just means I have good taste 17" package with some Falken Ziex tires (had them on my past 2 cars and love them) was right around $1300 if I remember. 16" rims are only $10 cheaper but the rubber is a little cheaper too so the overall price difference is around $200. I need to look at a lot more pictures closely before deciding what size I'm gonna go with.

Well, I see what you mean. I planned to invest in some springs but I dunno. I've done a pretty half-ass modding in the past.. maybe it's time to step it up a notch now that I can afford things and go all.. well...most of the way

And for those that didn't see my previous posts, this is the car in question:

All I've done so far is let it get dirty and purchased a M7 Strut tower bar (fear of the mushroom!!) and a much needed "stuby" antenna

I think I've made my decision.

Rota GT3 in black with polished lip

yeah, that's the Drag version but some thing.

Last question. I've done some research on offset. People seem to say between 42 and 50. These have a 40mm offset. I'm going to go with 16's with 205/50 rubber... will I be ok? Crap.. I may go 215/50 if it will work. I plan to drop the car as well. Probably with H-sport springs.

Thanks!

I just wish they came in 17 x 7.5.

Please post pics when you get them mounted up!

Here is a picture of my car with black Motegi FF7 with a polished lip. The black matches perfect with my car. They are reasonably priced and I think they look great. Whatever rim you choose, I am sure you will be happy with, but my personal favorite is black with a polished lip. Hope my pictures help you out a bit.

All these black with machined lip wheels on black cars are NOT helping me narrow my wheel selection down (currently BBS RFs or OZ Ultraleggeras in silver). the machined lip really makes the black wheels look great on the JB Mini.

Anyone have pics of ASA R1s black with machined lip on a JB mini???????

Thanks UKCooper, I appreciate the comment. My car has the complete Zeemax body kit and the wing is from Zeemax as well. Thanks again for the comment.

Ok these are really high on my list now. Where did you get them from? I found them on 1010tires for a good price, but the need the "tuner" lug bolt package that comes with bolts and wheel centering rings for over $100! Are they absolutley neccessary? tire rack gives those things for free but they dont have the FF7s

Shop around a bit. Some bright gold would be nice on the jb/jb. Rota has a lot of finishes and you can get most with a polished lip to match the chrome.
And get the wheels you want, worry about rings after you choose them. Plenty of places sell the metal rings for $15 shipped, anodized red, blue, etc.

i have a jet black on jet black. started my black out process, all thats left is joeymod and door handles.

i literally have spent days looking at wheels online.

it started with flat black wheels, red lip, lots of spokes.

then i decided they only look good in BIG sizes, and i wanted to stay 17" or smaller.

so i changed to black, no red lip, and would look nice in 17":

but then i decided i wanted to get away from the all black look.

instead, i wanted a mag style wheel, big spokes.
i've picked that wheel, just saving a few bucks to get it.
can't spill the beans yet.

thats my story.
why did i share? just to show your choice will change, lots of wheels look good.... just pick one and buy em.
you'll fall in love once your car is sitting on them.

I have midnight black but I'm all blacked out, I agree with glnr13 that all black looks great, but with jet black is such an awesome color whatever you decide will look good, and you will be happy with it.

Here's mine:
