New PIAA wheels arrived today !

I ordered them from Edge Racing, they were excellent to deal with. The boxes arrived today...

The wheels look GREAT and came with everything needed to mount them, center caps, chrome valve stems caps, chrome lug nuts and a nifty little socket to fit them.

I'm going to wait until the roads get a little better before mounting them. I'll post pics after that's done.

Looks nice.

I see the size is 215/45/17. Let us know how it works out mounted. I am looking to put that on my MCC an trying to figure out whether rubging/clearance will be an issue.

I expect there to be a tiny bit of rubbing in the back. I'm told that a little dremel work will easily fix that.

Appears to be First Class !

Now that's what I call First Class Delivery. Boxed and packaged nicely, mounted and balanced, and all the hardware. Certainly makes life easier.

Bob,

What's your impression of the wheels? Weight, construction, looks, etc...? I'm considering one of the PIAA wheels but haven't really been able to find online reviews of them.

Kevin,

The wheels are EXCELLENT quality. The finish is smooth and consistent both inside and outside. They are reasonably light at 21lbs. The factory s-lites and run flat tires are really heavy. This combination of wheels and tires will save about 20lbs per corner.

I was looking for a very clean look with a color to hide brake dust, the gunmetal is great for that. I still don't have them on the car...maybe this weekend though. It's killing me to see them just sitting there.

Those are very nice looking, but very heavy (to me, anything over 18lbs in 17" is heavy, personal opinion), albeit lighter than s-lites, which it's a huge improvement. We ordered 5zigen fn01rc (16x7, 14.5 lbs, and 17x8 are 17 lbs) and azenis, but my experience with edgeracing.com has been horrible. Ordered on 3/8, was told they would ship by 3/11, then 3/14, then was told not until 3/21, but the wheels showed in stock online, and on 3/16, the manager told me that they were still coming from 5zigen. Now, since I was told they would ship (3 times no less) and they have already charged me, I asked for them to upgrade shipping since I need them by this weekend (had I known they were back ordered, I would have chosen different wheels) for my wife. I was told that wasn't possible. I think that this is poor customer service, but maybe I am just angry about being lied to. The upside is the manager was actually apologetic about the person who lied to me.

It would be nice if the Tire Rack would place them in boxes as well. Both sets of wheels and tires I ordered from the Tire Rack a few years back arrived damaged one w/ a bent rim and others all scratched up. The packaging had a lot to do with it; two cardboard circles and a thin piece of foam just isn't the best packaging IMO. Customer Service was great at getting the problem taken care of, arranging for pick-up and a full refund. I have been hesitant to order again for fear of it happening again though.

OK, I cornfused
If the S-lites are 26 +/- lbs and the runflats are within 5 +/- lbs of most non runflats, how is it 20 lbs savings per corner?

Love the look of the PIAA's. Send photo's of the wheels on teh car. Been eyeing those for a while, maybe with this years tax return I can treat myself. My car is Dk. Silver and I think the gunmetal is the perfect finish

I don't know what tires Bob's car came with, but according to MINI2's tire information, the Goodyear Eagle RS-As weigh 30lbs each, compared to 20lbs each for the Toyos. The Dunlops and Pirellis weigh about 22lbs each.

Well...here's how my numbers work:

The S-Lites that I personally packed for UPS shipping when I sold them weighed 62lbs. It was an S-Lite wheel with the factory Dunlop run-flat tire mounted. They were packed with a little bubble wrap and a cardboard circle on each side. The packing material could not have added more than a pound each.

The PIAA wheels weigh 21lbs and the Toyo T1's weigh 20.1lbs. That's a total weight of 40.1 lbs, less valve stems and balance weights.

That leaves a difference of 20lbs + per corner.

I REALLY like those PIAA's and have been considering them for some time. Mostly because not many people have them. They aren't much lighter than the S-lites, are they?
