TPMS question

I'm picking up a new to me set of rims and tires today which already have the TPMS sensors installed. When I put them on the car is there anything special I need to do to get the new sensors hooked up to the car? Will it just happen automatically? Thanks!

as far as I know ... you need do nothing

I've never had to do anything anyway . . .

since it appears the knowledge base is thin

come back and tell us how it works for you!

(I think all TPMS works on the same frequency .. just very very low power so they don't cross read to another car)

Yes and no.

Not all the same Feq. Check model year, Mini changed sensors in 2009.

They are low power, some (other brands of car) need to be coded. But the Mini does not. May only need a reset - done VIA the BC menu on the dash.

I can ALWAYS count on

a response to a dead thread

to WAKE a lurker!!!!!!

From WAY's page for the TPMS system . . .

If you've got a MINI with the TPMS system (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and for one reason or another need to get another set for a new set of aftermarket wheels (the wheels will need to be TPMS ready) this is what you will need to make it happen. Kit includes 4 Sensors and 4 Valves specific to the MINI. Basically all 2007 and newer MINI's have TPMS and the way you can tell is to look at the valve stems; they will have a 1/2" or so funky looking cap and they're usually a light grey but there are also green and black caps out there.

Price includes a full set of 4 TPMS monitors and valves.

Please note, as of the Sept 2009 build date MINI has a different frequency for the TPMS sensors. Please note the option on the drop down menu for build date and slight price change for the newer TPMS kit. Also, the Gen3 MINI ("F" series models) use a different kit as well. Please select accordingly.

I don't quite follow this...I just started this thread last night.

Anyway, I just looked at them and the stem is black. Well, I'm going to try to get them on this afternoon. I'll see what happened. I'll put the others out in the shed so they don't interfere.

Yea, sometimes you don't have to reset them or anything. 2009 was the slip year for the sensors when they changed the part number.

I have a 2010 MCS, bought my sensors from ECS Tuning, did nothing other than drive it for a while. The sensors reset themself. Just make sure they are correct for the year car. As ECS said, pre or post 2009.
