Pothole!

The weather here in NY (NYC & LI) has been horrible!

Driving home from work yesterday, I hit a pot hole! Pretty hard shot:( The rest of the drive was filled with a bad vibration. So today I took the wheel off ( front passenger) and there is a rather large bubble on the inside sidewall, 16" contiprocontact ssr. My front tires are pretty much near the end of its life, as well as the rears along with a slow leak on one of the rears.

I have a new set of wheels and tires sitting in the garage waiting for the spring to set in a bit. Well i put them on today. New tires are Michelin pilot sport AS/3. As I was installing them , it starting snowing:( Yeah, again!

Apart from the snow, I'm looking forward to a better ride than runflats.

I might get snow tires for the old rims, for next season. Although it's snowing right now, I don't know if it's worth it to get them now.

Sorry to hear about the pothole incident. It is also possible that the bubble was already forming from previous but smaller damage.

In any case you get to "graduate" to some decent tires and it makes a huge difference for a MINI.

Is the rim still true after that?

Might not be so easy to visually say that it is OK, you can check for obvious damage but will need to try to balance it to make sure.

Besides the tire and the wheel, it's common to damage the suspension or the shock towers in front.

You probably won't know for sure until it gets balanced. If it's not true a lot of times a local tire shop has a wheel repair service they use that can fix a bent rim.

If the rim did get some as yet undetected damage, here is a resource you and anybody else might find useful:
http://www.awrswheelrepair.com/
They have MOBILE out of the trailer shops all over the country. Call for an appointment and they'll tell you where the rendezvous point is. Last I used them the guy had me on my way in less than an hour.
