Help with rota grid v fitment

i want to buy rota grid v wheels in 16x8 et20 for my r53 mini cooper. im currently at stock ride height and i plan on going with a 215/45/16 tire or a 205/45(50)/16 tire. not sure yet. my main question is, at my current ride height will i be able to fit the wheels on the car without rubbing? i dont have any plans for coilovers right now nor do i have an camber adjustment abilities now.

I don't think rubbing will be a problem just everything else.

Compared to OEM 16x6.5" et 48 and 195/55-16

using-
http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...et2=20#content

If you have 16x8 et 20 that will 9mm further from the inner suspension and 47.1mm poking outward. Generally 20mm poke is a lot, you don't really need to be 9mm farther from the inner suspension but with an aggressive offset you loose that space and move the wheel farther outward. For a 16x8" rims et33 would be a bit better.

As for tire size-
205/45-16 fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide, perfect for 7" wide rim, 23.1" tire diameter is small
215/45-16 fits rims 7-8" wide, perfect for 7" rim, 23.6" tire diam. is small
205/50-16 fits rims 5.5-7.5" wide, perfect for 6.5" wide rim, 24" tire diam. is OK

Other tire sizes-
205/55-16 fits rims 5.5-7.5" wide, perfect for 6.5" wide rim, 24.8" tire diam. tall but OK
225/50-16 fits rims 6-8" wide, perfect for 7" wide rim, 24.8" tire dam. is tall but OK

What kind of fitment and look are you trying for? Since you are using stock suspension any tire with a smaller than stock tire diameter is going to look too small and increase wheel gap. Smaller tires work with a dropped suspension. Using a tire that is tall like 24.8" is fine with stock suspension but if the tire is very wide then there could be less clearance for the edges of the tread shoulders when the MINI is loaded down or going over dips.

Look at your present MINI, look at your wheel and the gap it has to the inner wheel arch plastic, now imagine that the new wheel is going to stick out 47mm more which is 1.85". Now add a tire that fills that width out and go higher than your stock tire by 1/2". Is there clearance?

If you are using OEM 17x7" rims and 215/45-17 tires those are tall at 24.7" tire diameter when new, so 225/50-16 is a little taller but not much.

If you are going for the stretched tire look then you can consider tires that are 195 or 205mm wide depending on how severe you want the stretch to be, Since the tire is stretched to fit the wide wheel it doesn't have much sidewall and the tire diameter will be even less which increases wheel gap even more. Again, having a lowered suspension makes a difference and closes the gap.

So yes the 16x8 et20 rim will work but it is not a good solution and that is why you hardly see that Rota wheel on MINIs. The tire size of choice with stock suspension is 205/55-16 or 225/50-16 if you have a wider than OEM wheel.

Using 215/45-16 gives you limited tire selection that is more geared to racing and autocross or track than street driving. The other taller sizes are much better for tire selection.

If you have questions about wheel fitment and tire sizes give Alex@tirerack.com an email or call him at extension 4294.
