17x8 Wheel/Tire Combo question

I'm looking to pick up a set of Rotiform Machined NUE 17x8 ET30 4x100 wheels.

With the ET30, what size tire should I get?

225/40/17 or 235/40/17 or another size?

Thanks for the tips in advance!

225/40/17 would be the ideal size for the MINI, unfortunately only two manufacturers build that size tire and one is a Hoosier DOT race slick and the other is the Nitto Drag tire not a good tire (bad reviews) For 17x8 we're stuck with 215/40-17 or 235/40-17.(close but fits)

215/40/17, IMO.

Ran those wheels with 205/40/17s for the clearance but if you're not lowering then 215/40/17 should do the job.

Thanks for the recommendations! With the MINI already lowered by 1.25" I think the 205/40/17 will be the best option.

Thanks again!

I'll be interested to see them mounted when you get them in G33KGUY.

Update:

The vendor is out of the 17x8 et30.

However, they have offered to modify an in-stock 17x8 et20 to make it an et25.

Two questions.

1. Will the ET25 push the wheels past the arches?

2. I noticed on Stance's clubman and Creeve's MCS there's not much tire coverage on the lip of the rims. Tire size is 205/40/17. Would a 225/35 or 215/35 be a better fit to give better coverage to the rim lip? I'm concerned about curb rashing quickly, etc. as well as not wanting to stretch the tires.

Appreciate any feedback.

Stretch is for winners. Best way to avoid rash is to not hit anything... But more seriously, you can definitely run a 225 if you want. I think those guys are running stretch to increase clearance. If you aren't going to be that low and clearance isn't an issue go wide.

You won't be able to go wider than 205 without rubbing. That's the purpose of stretch...it keeps the tire away from the arch while running wide, low offset lips.

You can't make et20 wheels et25, so I'm confused by that bit of the story. But to answer you question, yes, that would push them out past the fenders.

You can avoid curb rash by not driving into curbs No matter what tire sizes you run, it's never a good idea to drive your wheel/tires into curbs.

Thanks for the tips on tire sizing.

Here's a quote from the email I received from the vendor:

We do have ET20 that we can make into ET25 at no additional cost.
Also, here's the type of rim-tire alignment I'm looking for.

If you see at the bottom, the tire is aligned with the rim itself.

No disrespect to the stance folks out there, I think there are some really awesome set ups, just a personal preference for me.

Cheers!

I wouldn't call a 205/40 on an 8" wheel stretching. Its within the tire's specification. You can mount 215's but I am very confident they will rub especially on an et20/25 wheel.

I'm not sure what impression you are getting from mine and Rally's pictures but the fit is very tight. I don't think either setup caused rubbing but I know in my case the only reason I don't rub is the -2 camber I have up front and my dremeled arches. With factory camber and arches it would definitely rub. That would be partially attributed to the fact I am lowered over 3".

If that's the case, you will have a hard time fitting 17x8 et30 and you'll have a very hard time fitting et20 or et25.

People don't just stretch tires for looks, they do it to allow clearance while running low offset, wide wheels.

Mine rubbed from time to time with the 205's on an et30....you're gonna rub a lot of you go with a fatter tire and want to lower the car.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm currently lowered about 1.25 inches all around. Sent you a PM as well.

Thanks!

Nice pics, appreciate you sharing.

Is your MINI lowered? Also, what is the offset of your Rotiforms? ET30?

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to hold out and wait for the ET30s to be shipped to me. I'm currently lowered 1.25 inches and will most likely end up with 205/40s. I'll avoid parking too close to curbs for sure.

the standard et30 & dropped 1.4" by H&R. no rubbing & no worries. you are safe with 1.25" but I'll be getting coils soon I'm not that happy with the drop of it..

don't forget to post your rotiform wheels soon
