Pics of a 205-50-16 on a stock wheel please

I am gonna need tires soon, it has 195-55-16 on now.

Also I SCCA solo this car, is a bigger tire gonna hurt the way it turns? I will also HPDE this car at some point. Car turns VERY well with the Continentals on it but rides like a covered wagon.

Can anyone recommend a good cheap(er) tire to drive everyday and autocross? No need for GOOD tires as I am a novice and cant take advantage of them yet.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

Changed from 175/65r15 stock MC tires to 205/50r15 Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R and these stick like glue. This car is on rails now. This tire has been updated to RE-11, which they claim is even better. Note: this is a summer tire only. It is very good in the wet too.

205/50-16 works fine I've been using that size on the last 3 MINIs. If you can use summer tires, Yokohama S.Drives work pretty good, are comfortable and pretty cheap.

not exactly what you're looking for but i hope this can help

205/60/16 on R86's [bridgestone blizzaks... they wore down after one full year and one rotation (2 at a time) only recommend if you like flying into curbs during wet weather!! jk]

^^^woah I thought mine were big

i had these put on by accident (205/55/16) when i requested 50s. Goodyear Eagle GTs. Also an FYI on these tires. They have an XL sidewall, which aside from being a pretty big tire, theyre stiff...wouldnt recommend for autoX

i too learned to like them.

theyre like 1mph off until 50 or so, then 2 mph off till 75ish (says im going 75 in car..GPS says 73)

Like colinmini stated, those Potenzas are very good tires...Ill probably add some to my summer rims soon

I just put on my 2009 JCW a new set of Michelin 205/50-17's and it feels SOOOOO different. I am wondering if I should go back to tire center and say something. I wouldn't say they talked me into it, it sounded like a good idea with the roads I drive on, but it feels. Am I really pushing the envelope as to size on car?

no i dont think your really pushing anything... does it rub?

the larger tires i put on mine felt world different too...very uncertain, but after the oilyness of the new tires went away, they really feel very 'certain' now... quite good in fact. may just take some time (2 weeks)

why would one want to put larger tires on? is there a performance improvement? I have 195/55/16 on mine. I do like the look of the bigger tires more since it closes the gap between the wheel well without needing to lower the car, but is there any negative impact on cornering performance?

Cheap decent tires in 205/50-16 is all you need.
Many good budget tires out there first that come to mind is Nitto NeoGen, Falken ZE-912, Yoko S.drive, etc. All good tires and MOST important are Sub-$80 tires.

Wider gives more lateral grip. Taller diameter raises the center of gravity, reduces acceleration through taller effective gearing, and may increase fuel mileage. Taller side walls improve the ride and may provide more grip during acceleration. Trade offs galore.

205/50-16 offer better performance in a few ways. Wider tread width offer larger contact patch, thus better grip. 50 series sidewall offers better gearing due to smaller radius and that gives better acceleration as well as better steering response. Though with a 16x6.5 oem sized wheel a 225 series might be too big for wheel causing it to have a kinda roll effect. Too small of a sidewall sacrifices ride comfort and "pot hole" protection, simultaneously too much sidewall can sacrifice steering response (transitions) and can have that "roll" effect under extreme driving conditions like auto-x or track use.

They didn't rub much when I has at this height. Now that I'm lower they rub if I have more then 2 people in the car.
