I've been lurking these forums for a long time but finally need to make my own post. I pulled the trigger on a '10 Clubman S to be delivered some time around Christmas. I've been backwards and forwards through everything I can find here and elsewhere and am at a loss... has anyone had success putting 15" wheels on a R55 S? I understand the brake issue but I can't imagine that there aren't any wheels out there that fit. I'm trying my best to get away from the run-flats, utilize a spare, and get as much sidewall as possible on my winter setup.
I travel from northern New Hampshire / Vermont to central New Jersey weekly and drive a full gamut of the Northeast's worst roads... in four years I've bent 3 rims on other cars - hence the desire for a more traditional sidewall height. Please be specific as to what rims have worked for you, as I need to get some ready to put on my new baby as soon as she comes in. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately I doubt you will find any 15 " rims that will fit the S as some 16" do not fit because of the brakes.
I have 16" rims from Elbrus (specifically the I02) and spent last winter on them driving everywhere in New England (me, vt, nh, ma) and parts of NY without any problems.
I would just go with the 16" of your choice and get a very good set of snow tires and you should be all set.

Nothing wrong with the 15s that come with the car, IMHO.
Read the post. He's getting an S. S's dont come with 15s.

At least for right now, throw some tall (60-70) and narrow (175s-185s) snows like Blizzaks on the rims yr car will come with (stick with 16s, 17s dont allow for a tall tire), yeah maybe y'll have to swap them out for winter every year, but U will save on 1) buying 2nd rims and 2) buying tpms sensors for the 2nd set.

These fit over R53 JCW brakes and 2nd generation MINI brakes.
O.Z. 35th Anniversary SR 15x6.5
O.Z. Ultraleggera SR 15x7
Motegi TrakLite 2 15x7
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 15x7
Kosei K1 TS 15x7
I would recommend 5mm or 8 mm spacers.

Thanks for all the advice so far folks... I'm still trying to get a 15" setup. I appreciate the advice about a skinnier winter-specific tire, however due to the wide range of driving I'll be doing I am pretty stuck on a performance winter tire. I realize they sacrifice some snow traction for better grip on wet and dry roads but I still need to be able to negotiate those kind of conditions in the Mid-Atlantic states regularly.
appears some run 15s with the Texas Speedwerks BDM brakes as they are designed to fit 15" wheels..but that obviously wouldnt be worth it unless your going to track the car too

I was looking at 15" wheels as well for running some low rolling resistance michelins for an eco trek.
The problem seems to be two-fold. Clearing the front brakes. And clearing the rear trailing arm where the shock is mounted.
I have 16" wheels and the clearance to the arm is tight to begin with.
The base cooper comes with 15x5.5" wheels. I think the narrow 5.5" width might clear the rear arms. Else as another poster mentioned, spacers may be needed.
I'm curious if there is a difference between the base Cooper and Cooper S in terms of brakes/rear trailing arms.

Same aluminum trailing arms, not sure about the brakes for 2nd gen, though.

You can go to TireRack.com and configure a 15" winter package. Curently the only 15" wheel that TireRack says will fit an S is the 15x7 Enkei PF01, and it won't be available until February.
So I've tracked down some more pertinent info. According to the guys out at Team Dynamics in Cali their Pro Rally 1 wheels in a 15x7 will definitely fit (one of their employees has em on his MCS). The key question at this point is whether the 15x6s will squeeze on there... So it's a week before my car will be here and I'd really like to have my winter wheels and tires on hand to put them on right at delivery.

If anyone out there has some time on their hands and would like to help out a fellow NAM member please print these profiles out at 100% Full Scale on some thick paper or card. [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=2]Cut out around the outline at an offset of 45 (I think) and then line up with your hub centerline to see if it will clear everything in the vicinity (you of course have to take a wheel off to test these).[/SIZE][/FONT]

Try to find them here stateside, they gotta be somewhere in the northeast or northwest maybe. Cause if they are air shipped, it will cost a lot and if they are freight it will also cost a lot but take a very long long time to arrive.

I have found a supplier that has them in stock... the issue is just whether to gamble on the 15x6s. They'd be preferable for snow/winter tires and are of course lighter.
are the offets different? if so thatll probably answer your question.
im sure this is a dumb one, but its not hard to find tiny tires (incl. snows) with the load rating for this car is it?... I thought it was kind of heavy for such a small car / small wheels...dunno
