Hello Jayk,

What MINI, year, miles/KM do you have on the MINI? Did you hit them so hard that you were feeling the ABS? Lot's of people have never felt the ABS in their cars and is something we should all know the feel of so we don't lift off the brakes when we need them the most.

Are you running bigger rims? Are you lowered? If so, its possible that under hard braking you're getting a fender rub. Had that in a previous car.

hi guys..mine is 03 cooper S done about 40,000 km. got 18" rim with zeemax bodykit. i didn't lower the car, in fact add some steel stuff to raise the front end so the car wont hit the pavement.

it did happen when i hit the brakes really hard. didn't see any warning light on (i guess the ABS is yellow '!" sign on the gauge). am not sure if the problem comes from the clutch coz naturally i hit the brake first, when hear the knock noise, then push down the clutch as well.

i hope it didn't damage any drivedrain inside the car

If you get into the ABS under hard braking there will not be any lights on the dash. It's just part of the way the ABS works. If the ABS light is on then you may have a ABS issue. Can you make it make the noise at will?

If it's ABS, the pedal will go all funky on you while it's working... You should be able to detect a distinct grinding / pulsating sensation coming through (which could be a source of noise itself).

Something else to check would be your tie-rod ends. I developed a laxity in my driver's side tie-rod end, and it caused a rhythmic, knocking noise under moderate to heavy braking. Easy way to tell is to put both hands on opposite sides of the wheel and try to make it "turn". There should be no side-to-side wobble unless something is loose.

i did feel some pulsating sensation coming through the pedal and rhythmic noise.

i will check the tie-rod thingy. coz when it happened, i kind of feel it's from the driver's side.
