Hankook R-S2s are noisy

I have R-S2s (225/45-15s) on my monster Miata, and love them. When I dumped the runflats & stock wheels I decided to also install R-S2s on my MINI. (205/50-16s). So far I'm happy with the tires, but boy, are they noisy, compared to the stock runflats. I never noticed the noise on my monster-top down there is too much wind noise and top up there is too much engine/transmission noise (V8s in small cars are noisy ).
Anyone else running this tire on their MINI?
Ron

They're Max Performance summer tires? They're going to be noisy, bumpy, and need replacing every 10k miles. They're actually quite quiet compared to a lot of tires out there. Then again my tires are inaudible compared to the rest of my car...

I just installed 215/45/16 on mine on May 3rd. I went from non runflat winters 195/55/16 to these and I think they are a bit quieter than my winters. I can't remember what I have for winters, but I am very very happy with these tires so far!

I imagine once I drive around on them for a while I'll adjust to the slightly higher road noise.

I always found those tires to be very vague and unresponsive and but very grippy and good wear. used to run them in STX.

they are noisy.

The sidewall is squishy, that's going to affect turn in. The RT-615's are a better choice for serious competition. If you're going to drive on the street though, in the rain, have fun hydroplaning all over the place. The RS-2's are a much better choice for the street.

I just got a set of R-S2 tires for my new rims. I can't wait to throw them on! I wanted the RT-615, but I drive in the mountains the most and it can rain, be cold, etc... and I heard that the Hankook withstood DD much better than the Falken. It these don't work, I will throw on some Ecsta MX tires and call it good.

The RS-2's are going to drive better overall than the MX's (Even though the MX's have a slightly stiffer sidewall).

In terms of overall Comparision, I'd say it goes something like this...

Stickiness -
Dry: RT-615's, RS-2's, MX
Wet: RS-2's, MX, RT-615's

Sidewall Flex -
RT-615's, MX, RS-2's

Tire Life -
RS-2's, MX, RT-615's

I liked my RS2s better than my Azenis, although sizing factors into it (215/45/16 vs. 205/50/15). The Azenis were harder to figure out re: tire + surface temps.

I didn't notice the RS2s to be significantly louder than any other tire, tho.

Just installed mine and I have to say, I am liking these much better than anything previously used. These are worlds better than the Kumho MX in noise, comfort, etc...

If these wear well, I will use them again!

Thanks for your RS2 reviews. I'm planning on buying a set of 205-50-15 to use as my track tires.

I had Kumho MXs on my monster Miata, and replaced them with RS-2s. In my view, the RS-2s are better in every way.

It is a good tire for sure, particularly considering the low low cost for such performance. I run them on my miata (205-50-15) and ran them on my mini last year (215-45-17). My JCW came with run-flats so I'm using those up before I put the RS2's on the Web Spokes. Great in rain, decent grip at lower ambient temps for start/end of summer driving season, fairly long lasting tread life, but definitely noisy as they get past half-worn.

The Hankooks are indeed noisy, but stick like GLUE! I was AMAZED at how they stuck to the track at Sebring through turn 17. They squealed like hell, but MAN did they stick! Before I switched to shaved Toyo RA1s, the Hankooks were my tire of choice for street and track use. I got over 15K miles out of my set, including 2 track weekends.

I am on my 2nd set of the RS2's. I have used them on 5 track days. The only time they were not ideal was a cool damp weekend at VIR. Never noticed any noise.

What model of Hankooks did you run?

I think because the tread is about Hankookie RS2's that's what he's referring to.

Cooper word on the street is that your front tires have the air showing through. If it rains be careful my friend.

I'm planning on buying a set of RS2's for track use.

Great video. My next track session is in July. The hard part will be deciding which car to take; my 1990 monster Miata, or my MCS, with its new R-S2s.
If it's raining the decision will be easy; the monster will stay in the garage.
