JCW Big Brake kit OK for which wheels ?

OK...I know I am stupid because my wife says I am BUT......

According to my research I have found the following contradictions:

Moristown Mini says the JCW big brake kit will work only with R85, R90, R91 , R98 and R99 wheels

However, I downloaded the kit install instructions from Mini ( can't remember where but I am looking at them as I write this) and the install as that JCW brakes can be used with ALL OE 17" wheels

I currently have an 03 S with 2007 Crown Spoke 17" wheels and am not sure if the kit will work or if I have to pop for new wheels, which I would rather not do.

Any help would be most appreciated......

The R56 MCS has the same size brakes as those in the JCW Brake Kit for the 1st Gen MINI. Since the 17" Crown-spoke fits the R56 MCS it will work fine on your MINI with the JCW Brake Kit.

The dealer is quoting you only the 17" 1st Gen wheels which fit with the Kit. 16" R87 and R94 1st Gen wheels will also fit.

16" R94 Bridge-spoke wheels are approved for use with the JCW Brake Kit:

16" R84 V-spoke wheels are NOT:

unbeleiveably, my mini has the JCW brake kit and the R84 V spoke wheels. It's REALLY tight. I rotated the wheels and there was weight tape in the wrong place... "squeaky squeaky squeaky.... as I drive out of the driveway. Ugh. I still have to move the weight tape (which is tomorrow's project).

that is good information - thank you.

I run the R84 wheels in white for the track and HT10 pads - this combo offers great stopping power and strength - I do not kill my pads in 1 weekend HPDE (like I did with PBR Ceramics, Hawk HP Street or Hawk HP Plus) all pads were new - bedded in correctly and died in 1 weekend of work

The HT10s have been great two weekends so far and they still look new!

I was thinking of maybe finding a JCW kit or R56 kit to convert over, but the hell with that now - the wheels are too close so that kills that

thank you!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but my pads are about 10 - 15% left, and I'd like to upgrade to the JCW / r56 brake package on my r53. Have you noticed any issues running your R84s with the JCW kit? I love the wheels on it, and really don't want to spend the money to replace. To address the cooling issues mentioned, I thought about throwing in a cooling duct (like http://www.waymotorworks.com/mini-brake-ducts.html) from the fog light location. I'm a bit concerned about balancing with the wheel weights, though.

Well that member has been inactive for over a year and a half, so I'm not sure you'll get a response. However looking at their personal profile, they did end up changing the wheels to the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2. I can't say its due to the brakes, but I'm sure it make brake life easier.

Oops! Good catch. I may just throw on some pads for now and save up for new wheels / tires. Sigh. It's going to be tough finding wheels that light and good looking.
