Winter tire choice?

I am thinking about buying the 195/55-16 Blizzak WS-50 winter tires for my 2007 MCS? I live in New england so we do get snow. I just dont know how bad it will be this year. Its gunna cost $864.00 for 4 blizzak tires and 4 rims good deal from Tire rack?

Seems like a decent deal to me. Alex at TireRack told me that they have a 15inch wheel that was designed to fit the 07 MCS. He quoted me $625 for the 15 inch wheel with Blizzaks. I'd actually do it, but my wife doesn't want to get anything but run flats.

Hey, I am in CT to. Unless you have to do some serious bad weather driving i think all out snow tires are overkill. My dad and I just split the cost of a set of Nokian WR all seasons and so far they have been great, far better than i expected (this in the wet and the dry). The tires have that "snowflake" thing on them so they should do pretty well in the snow. However they arent exactly cheap, coming out at around $150 a pop.

That said i am pretty close to the coast where all out snows arent really needed.

For southern New England, Nokian WR is a great choice.

For northern New England, Nokian Hakkapellitta 2 / 4 / 5 are great choices.

Tirerack does not carry Nokian tires. You can find dealers for Nokian from their website http://www.nokiantires.com/

I wouldn't go thru winter on all season rubber. Not only do they make driving in snow fun, but they greatly increase your safety.

When the snows are on, your 3 season tires are resting and not wearing. Ultimately, the only real cost of the snows is the wheels.

just ordered Michelin X-Ice for my girlfriend's Accent in Middletown (Costco) - living 30 min. north of Ct border in Northampton I would say the MINIMUM for a MINI would be a winter performance tire like Dunlop M3s (available in 195/55R16) or Michelin Pilot Alpin (205's only)...

If you are going to go 15s (for 2007 MCS) why not Konig Feathers (11.9 lbs.) through Altamini (Adam said they would fit TIGHTLY at $89 a wheel - $10 shipping)...although Tirerack is great...

runflats a load of "bollocks" - get the slime kit for $20 with compressor from Autozone, and put up with minor amber warning light on speedo...

14 yrs. of NE winters, interspersed with 32 years of travel in toronto-montreal-vermont-NE corridor...

Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport RFT

I went with the Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport RFT 205 X 45VR X 17. I live in Anchorage, Alaska where we have winter for 5 months. Will let you know how they work out as soon as they get here.
