Is it a good idea to have only one set of rims for snow/autox
I was thinking about it. Just switching the tires in the spring and fall. I am thinking about buying a 15X7 rim now with snow tires and buying autox tires with my tax return. Obviously the rim will see some crappy conditions, but I'm really good about avoiding potholes.

I look at it this way: Most local places charge $60-$80 to mount and balance a set of tires. If you do that twice a year (swapping out your summer and winter tires), you'll soon approach and pass the price of another set of wheels.
Get a set for snow and one for Autox. you might as well because, as dan said, it will get costly and would even iteself out.
I plan to have one set for snow, one set for show, and one set for go next year.
edit: also, I'm pretty good about potholes, but you never know when a new one will show up. I drove down a strett that i KNOW did not have a pothole that morning, and that night I plowed through a huge one that appeared through the day and I'm pretty sure one of my wheels is bent(it was dark and raining so i had no chance.)
