Sway bar install question

Hey! So I'm wondering what a reasonable estimate of time is for this job? I bought the NM bar and the dealer wants 3.5 hrs at $110 to install. So what $385?! They says its absolutely that much because you have to drop the rear subframe, which sounds like absolute nonsense from everything I've read. Actually i looked at the install and it looks like I could do it myself, just don't have the time to. So what's reasonable?

What Mini do you have? This tech article may be of some assistance with insight on how long/how much the job should take/cost.

Sounds about right. Technicians aren't usually up to date with what labor rates are given. I hope they're able to take care of you and get it done for a decent price.

Your quote actually sounds about right per the book quote. I had a shop ready to install for me for 1hr Labor at $89phr. When their Manager looked it up he informed me that the book states 5.9hrs. They don't take into fact that an amature can get this done in about 2hrs with the right tools. Each part involved has a quote.

Remove wheels/drop shocks = set hrs
Remove end links/sway bar mounts = set hrs
Subframe, etc... Get my point.

This job is easy. If you have basic tools and access to a lift, I'd recommend doing it yourself. If not, you may be looking at an avg. of $300 and up. Unless you have connections.

Good luck...

Good to get an idea what to expect. Thanks! I'm going to check with a couple locals I trust and see what they think it will take. I looked over the job and think it's within my abilities. Just hard to find 2-3 dedicated hours around here!

Ok my local guy Ryan (who is AWESOME!) says "oh yeah. That's a straightforward job. Takes about an hour or so. $68 an hour." Decision made.

Yep, that's a pretty good hourly rate. Do it.

He has a shop in the back of his home property and is honest as the day is long. Doesn't mark up parts. Has done great work for us before. I'm on his schedule for Friday! (Happy dance!!)

Congrats, you will definitely enjoy this upgrade...

You could have got it done with jack stands, but it could have ended up being a PITA of an install with the limited space.

Smart choice.

such an awesome upgrade, put it all the way stiff (NM) and don't look back...

took a couple of relaxed hours with a buddy, spent most of the time figuring out where we wanted to jack the car

Still working on getting this done. Wife's brake booster went out day before Ryan was to do my car so gave her my appointment. I'm on his schedule for this Friday though!
