So I've been looking around at tires for a while now to replace the runflats and came across these on tirerack. They have an amazing deal going for them, 205 45 17 for $68 each with a $60 mail in rebate if you buy 4. It comes to 304 with the road warranty then 240 after rebate! or $210 without the warranty.
Just figured I would pass this info on to you guys, if you know a similar performing tire for around the same price let me know!
Ordered a set last week on 7/21, they got to my independent installer in 2 days on 7/23, got it mounted up on Friday 7/24.
The ride quality is good without being too soft/squishy, haven't really pushed them hard yet but they seem to drive well, not alot of road noise. But then, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero's that they replaced (which were purchased on Tire Rack for $96 each on special) were nearly bald and were making alot of noise towards the end so it's a difficult comparison.
Looking at Tire Rack's reviews (if they're to be believed) it looks like they are comparable to the Yokohama S-Drives.
With the $60 rebate (Tire Rack will send you the rebate coupon and an extra copy of the invoice, this essentially will pay for the cost of the mounting and balancing at my local tire/wheel place), and at the $68/tire price for the 215/45R17's and $49 shipping, no tax in CA, it's hard to beat the price.
The tires are old stock (2005) manufacturer. I'll go down and look at the week/year 4 digit code some time and see what month. In general, the recommendation is not to run tires more than 6-10 years old on the vehicle. These may already be close to 5 years old, but they weren't mounted and being run, they were in storage (presumably stored well).
My last set of Pirelli's lasted about 11 months (about 16K miles). These have a softer rating so I'll be lucky to get the same out of these. I'm personally not too worried about these being an older production year tire as I'll probably go through these well before they turn 6 years old (much less than the 10 years commonly recommended for tire replacement and within the 6 year more conservative recommendation).
Admittedly it isn't the highest performance tire out there, then again, for a daily commuting tire, its a very good deal. Compare this price to what your local tire place is offering at this price range and you'll likely only find no-name/house brand offerings (low performance, questionable quality).
At this price (34% less than a Yokohama S-Drive, 48% off with rebate) it was worth it even if we blow through them quickly...until the next Tire Rack sale comes along that is... = More $$ for other MODS!!
