2nd Mod complete: What's behind the airbox mod? (bmp)
So I installed my bmp today. I used some aluminum head shield material to extend it to the partition.
Drilled holes in the partition, (using a license plate behind it to shield the brake lines) but had a hard time 'catching' the cutouts as they fell behind the partition.
Looks like a black hole back there, where'd they go? Are they going to melt and go away or shoot out my exhaust?
Nice mild intake sound and I love being able to hear the supercharger whine All in all not too obnoxious.
Nice gains 3500+rpm, still got my yo-yo.
Got the green from the President of the family bank to do a pulley and crank mod!
can you take a pic of the airbox sheild you made? I have the same intake and don't like the way the stainless does not extend the the back of the partition. Do you have any idea if the lack of sheilding has any bad effects on cold air intake.

Regarding the lack of sealing of the bmp, my theory is that yes, some hot air from the engine bay will affect the 'effect' of cold air intake, although how much, i dunno.
right now i have the heat shielding adhesed to the round end of the unit extending to the edge of the partition. After installing it i realized that i could probably redo the heat shielding in a sort of 'shroud' so that i could actually shield the entire square portion of the partition.
in other words it would balloon outward towards the back of the engine bay to encompass the entire opening as right now it's rounded the size of the bmp shield.
I've attached a pic of a gruppe-m knock off for the 3 series e46 that gives an illustration of the shroud.
i ordered the adhesive heat shielding from www.pegasusautoracing.com at the recommendation of another nam member on another thread regarding another topic
i also have removed the drivers side cowl (at the windshield wiper) and installed the orciari (sp?) scoop without it's mesh grill to entice inflow of air more easily while moving.
it gets extremely warm in summertime where i live and my intentions are to somehow get the engine cooler air at standstill and lower speeds.
The side with the brake lines is not open in the bottom.
There is a drain hole.
Your plastic parts will enjoy the ride and will not be of issue.
I droped one down there when doing my "swiss chees" mod.
I was able to get it out with a flex gripper.
I really do KONW this will get some air moving.
Before I had a good seal on my IC, if I sprayed a my IC I would get a fine mist on the passengers window.
Also on cool mornings that side defrosts from the outside befor the drivers

Have you seen any improvments from the cowl scoop? i remember reading a thread here on NAM about the redundancy of the cowl scoop for an actual function other than bling... i'll try to link to the thread if i can find it. i'm intrested in the cowl scoops but i've been holding back because of the debates.

Just read the post. Makes sense, possibly, although nobodies done a windtunnel smoke test.
I'd bet though, that the air flow while the car is moving moves over the hood and 'jumps' that area where the scoop is mounted.
And then I'd bet again that as the post mentioned at 50mph+ the flow of air gets closer to that area.
If only i could extend the top of the scoop 12'14" forward over the hood, I'd bet i'd get some positive inflow... something accordian and locking so that I could still get the bonnet open lol
so my question to the knowledgeable would be, since the opening of the scoop is less area that the opening of the stock cowl, am I taking AWAY from the function of wanting to have more air avaialbe to the cai?

As other's have said, it'll stay trapped and shouldn't cause any trouble. But if you're interested, it's not hard to remove the rest of the airbox and 2 bolts plus 1 riv-screw later the entire back wall will come out.
Lord knows I've had mine out enough this weekend with the boost and oil pressure gauge and Alta intake install. I've taken it out some many times over the last few months I put a quick disconnect on my driving light power lead where it passes through the wall

i would like to know this also, if at low speeds you're actually getting a negative effect but mor airflow at higher speeds
