Micro filter replacement

Has anyone written a How To, for replacing the air filter that is under/behind the glove box? Tools required, etc? I searched, but could not find one. I am out of warranty, 73K miles on our '03, and want to try replacing the filter myself. Thanks.

Ooops. I did not see anything under my glovebox that looked like the pic they showed on their website.
I really need a step by step How To or I am afraid I will break something.
Thanks.

Was looking at the prices for these filters at promini. . .

they say:

MSRP: $33.50
Your Price: $36.05

WTF? Seems an odd selling strategy to disclose how much more they mark up a product beyond the MSRP. . . . Must be some error. . . .

Anyone know the cheapest option for replacement? Moss has one for $17 and a carbon enhanced one for $24

are you sure you didn't see it?
to replace the micro filter look underneath the glove box, there you should see a black, rectangular, plastic box with four tabs, one of each corner.

pull back on the tabs to release them. pull the bottom "door/cover" out of the way.

pull down the old micro filter.

the new micor filter goes in with the "grooves" facing up. good luck!

I agree, Yucca -- I see the same on ProMini's site.

This ebay vendor has a Bosch replacement for less:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BOSCH...spagenameZWDVW

And here's an ebay vendor with some kind of generic thing that should fit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cabin...spagenameZWDVW

Just installed my new microfilter. The Carbon one, same as comes OEM, not the less expensive Electrostatic one that is available. Lauderdale MINI has it for $39.95. Another local dealer was $10 more.
The hardest part was getting the cover off. You just have to pull out on one side of the cover (I did the front first) REAL HARD, to get it over the retaining bumps, then do the opposite side. I was really afraid I would rip the plastic, but it did not.
Sliding the filter in/out was easy, but do pay attention to the orientation when you pull the old one out. If they were changed at every 15K service interval as they are supposed to be, I can tell you it was verrrry dirty after 15K miles(6-7 months for me).
Thank you mr edly for the link, and joey1320 for your commentary that gave me the courage to try harder!

I changed mine today...

Fairly easy to do...

Mine has never been changed... more than 3 years later & 140 000km, it was really dirty!

no probs.
yeah you have to pull hard on the tabs, but after a couple of times the plastic gets weaker/easier to pull. but be carefull because it also gets easier to break.

i think the hardest part is putting the cover back in place, sometimes you have to "bang" on it to lock it into place

also, save the money and use the cheaper version of the filter, is just outside air

Yes it is! I haven't noticed the musty smell @ all since switching. But supposly my car had a charcoal one from the start since I had the Auto A/C. But the one I pulled out looked different then the one I put in.

Moss Mini has em..oem at $29.99 or non oem ranging from about $17 to $24....+ fgt (you will pay local sales tax anyway at the dealer.
Also you see them on Ebay...Bosch all the time and oem occasionally...Stealerships are out of control.

Putting it in IS simple but you get to do it while upside down with your feet up on the passenger side seat!....Key word for installer is BENDABLE!

I got a Bosch C3672, carbon activated, for $29.99 through special order at an AutoZone in southern NJ. I had the car at the shop to get some other work done and they had checked the filter and offered to replace it for $40. I declined since I had already ordered the Bosch from AutoZone. Apparently the shop didn't snap the cover back on tightly because when I went to change the filter today the front part of the cover was already dangling down. So that made it really easy for me to replace the filter.

The link to the Pro MINI video has changed; it's now http://www.promini.com/technical/cab...er_install.php. The video is good and if you follow it, it's a snap to install. Note that with the Bosch, there are actually arrows printed on the sides, but they're so faint that you won't easily spot them. And Bosch doesn't even mention the arrows in their directions. This video does mention the arrows. Luckily, I made an educated guess by looking at the stock filter and had put the Bosch in the correct way (it's really easy--the lighter side faces up). The stock filter has black plastic edging around it, which the Bosch does not have. The Bosch has a felt-like edging around it, which I don't see any issue with since it fits in snugly, so the seal should be good.
