Broken Door Lock

I have a 2003 MCS. Today I checked it out of a valet parking lot and discovered that the lock switch on the center panel does not unlock the passenger door lock. The remote on the key will also not work on that door.

Any thoughts?

Someone only a few days ago posted about only one lock not working and someone else said they had the same problem and was the lock actuator sensor/switch. It was replaced at the dealer and everything worked fine.

Taking mine in for the same thing this week. Sounds like it'll be an easy fix. Thanks for the info!

Yes, this happened to my 2003 MINI (May build). It was the driver's side door, too. The lock actuator (small motor inside the door) had failed. Dealer replaced it under warranty. This seems like a fairly common occurrence, you're at least the 6th person who has mentioned this happening.

rock on,

Unfortunately, mine went at 42K miles. So I'm out of warranty.

I thought MINI's were warrantied for 4 years, 50,000 miles against "mechnical defects?"

The free maintenance is 3 years, 36,000 miles (whichever comes first) but I do believe non-wear items (such as the door lock actuator) are covered for 4 years, 50K miles.

Someone correct me if this is wrong?

I have the same problem on my 2003 MCS, just started yesterday. Another trip to the dealer is coming up, I guess. I have 37k miles, but bought the extended maintenance, so it doesn't matter if its a "mechanical defect" or not. Seems to be a rash of these right now.

Ok same thing has happened to me today with the Drivers door... apparently I didnt know it didnt lock the drivers door last night so when I saw the little nub thing up i thougth id dint lock it and just opened the door and the alarm went off!!! then trying it a few times through out the day the drivers side door wont lock with the key fob or the central locking toggle switch... ihave to manually stick the key in there...

Also the key roll up wont work either for the windows...

So whats the fix a new door lock actuator?

Sigh... at this rate I think i need to look into getting an extended warranty on this thing. not even 3 years yet and sooo many little problems...

Let see let me count...

Engine Oil leak
Brown Coolent
Paint Rubbing off under hood
Stumble
Strut tower / shock absorber crack
Sunroof rattle when in pop up mode
Tail Gate Rattle
MAJOR Dash Rattle and i mean HUGE!
Gas tank sensor broke reporting empty all the time
Passenger Head light out Took 5 times of taking it back before its fixed
Now Drivers side automatic door lock not working...

I'm kinda getting tired of somthing failing to work every 2 months or so. Althought they all have been minor problems but still...

My passenger door lock and window did not work. Pulled off the door panel and checked everything. Thought the power window motor was bad, as I did get a clicking sound. Put it back together and the door locks started working fine, must have been jammed. But window still didnt work. Brought to dealer where I bought it, not a Mini dealer, a Nissian dealer, as I had a extended warranty. They fixed it in about 15 mins. They said the window was also jammed up. Dohhoooo Been working fine for a few thousand miles now.

I just bought my 03 MCS 1 week ago and the door worked fine when I bought it. The next day I found myself having to let people into the car by opening it manually and bitching at everyone to make sure they lock the door.

Ok, I had the same issue for the last few weeks. the driver side door will only open with the key. I took my MSC to Baybridge motors, Oakland ca. they pulled apart the door and check the motor and working parts. all worked fine, but the lock still will not work. Long story short, turns out thee is some type of code and I have to take it back to sthe stealership and have them reprogram the computer to let me use the key lock. Any thoughts, have you been told this?

'02 Cooper S with driver door lock problem

I'm having the same problem with my '02 - driver door lock won't work with remote or dash switch. It's WAY out of warranty, so if anyone can tell me a ballpark price on getting it fixed, I won't faint at the dealer when I take it in.
Thanks!
K

I have a 03 S that I just picked up today from the dealer.
1) door lock actuator - $360.00
2) window motor -$349.00
3) steering angle sensor & left wheel speed sensor - $700.00
4) control arm bushings - $492.00
All was going to be covered under my extended warranty from Continental until they came out to inspect the car and denied my claim due to my K&N COLD AIR INTAKE and SUPER SPRINT EXHAUST...
Now they want to cancel the warranty all together.
???????

Gotta love these extended warranties. They were "difficult" to deal before, but in this economy they are just flat out crazy now! Actuator, window motors and steering damaged by the CIA and aftermarket exhaust?!?!? They are just looking for an excuse.

Good luck with your claim. I hope you dont end up paying that because you paid premium dealer price for each item.
