removed JCW air cleaner and liking it!

Ok, this may be a step backward in some peoples opinion...

(Please don't make this a JCW against other tuning thing)

I have a 2005 cooper s, jcw tuning kit. I had a 2004 with a Rouge/Tuner Motorsports Cold Air Intake which I kept when I traded in the 2004 S.

So, now I have about 5,500 miles, and wanted to see the difference with the Rouge CAI compared to the JCW intake, so after getting the 3 y.o. to sleep and the wife caring for the 5 month old, I go out to the garage and take off the JCW intake. I had aready permanently removed the JCW flap so it would flow air all the time, and not just above 4500 rpm. Reason for the change being is I really missed the loud supercharger whine I had with the Rouge CAI. The airbox already has a hole cut in it due to the JCW intake install, and I install the Rouge.

Well this a.m., the loud supercharger whine is back and it feels like a picked up a few more horsepower.....

I wonder if this is due to the visceral sound or if there is any dyno proof out there about CAI's. I know the alta has the most airflow, and best hp gains by tuner experience, but has anyone done a dyno comparing the jcw and dinan and others. I think the JCW is better insulated airbox, similar to the dinan. I don't want to simply be going on sound, but want to know about HP effect. For example, BMP sounds loud but may not have the HP gain..... What do people think?

Even if it is indeed making a couple more HP (which is entirely possible), you aren't feeling a thing. It sounds louder, and you can tell yourself you can feel a change, but you are just fooling yourself.

As long as you dig it, that is all that matters
