P0087 and carbon build-up: related according to a Mini SA

So, I've gotten two P0087 (Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low) codes my 2011 MCS. I took it as a sign that the HPFP might fail anytime soon, even though the car only has 50k miles on it.

The first time, I reset it too see if it was just a fluke. When it came back months later, I didn't reset it, but it went away on the next cold start. I couldn't drive to the dealership right when the code popped because the closest one to me is 3 hrs away. I spoke to a Mini SA about it to see if they'll replace the HPFP under warranty. He said that they won't unless they can verify the code.

He then suggested that the car might just be due for a carbon cleaning and that I should bring the car in since it's got 50k miles and I've never had the intake media blasted. I have to pay out of my own pocket, of course.

Am I missing something here? I don't see the connection between low fuel pressure and coked up valves. Fuel doesn't even pass through the intake.

Then again, I'm no expert mechanic.

There is not a connection between that specific HPFP code and carbon cleaning.

Caked up valves can give similar symptoms to other HPFP codes though.

If you ever do carbon cleaning, a lot of independent MINI or BMW shops will do it for a fraction of the cost.
