I'm confused about the lack of DRL on my car. It's an '05 Mini Cooper Convertible. There are no DRLs on the car, and I thought US law mandated that there be.

Initially, I figured this was a computer setting, and that the previous owner had turned them off by a reprogram from the dealer. So I called the dealer to see how much it would be to have them turned back on. The service woman stated that she didn't see DRLs as an option on the build sheet of my car and that I didn't have them.

However, she ALSO told me initially that I could just go into the settings and turn them back on myself. I assured her that that 1st gen didn't have these options available to the consumer like the 2nd gen, and that this had to be done by the dealer.

So now I don't know what the hell to believe. Does my '05 have DRLs that are simply disabled, or were DRLs an option that my car didn't come with?

 

Think standard in Canada as DRL had to be active.

In the US DRL was a coded option, it can be flashed by a MINI dealership to turn on / off. Sounds like it was just turned off.
