My 2002 Mini Cooper s is having problems with the ASC. Light won't come off and I'm trying to diagnose the codes.

5E16- can connection to instrument cluster
5E18- can data fault from DME/DDE
5E19- can data fault from DME/DDE (DSC lamp on as long as error is present)
5DF4 system voltage <9V

If you have low voltage (the last code), I would fix that first and the rest may resolve itself.

Do you have a way to measure the voltage while the engine is off and while it is running?

Good. Is that car off or running? Did you check both?

So far no modifications just fixing problems some left behind when I got it. Only recent thing I did was Chang oil filter housing, crank sensor gasket and anti freeze. When I got it my mini was in bad shape first day I got it blew a multiple serptintine belts. And after that was nothing but trouble the original owner of the car didn't know what he was doing put things on the wrong way bought cheap parts and installed them terribly. I've been working to fix this car for almost a year now

That is low for running. Should be around 13.5v. I would guess a charging problem that is just showing up in the DSC.

First, check the connections on the battery and alternator.

The auto parts stores will usually test a battery or an alternator for free.

Did you have the battery load tested? A weak battery will cause electrical problems with the car even if the alternator is putting out 14V.

I would also find, remove, and clean all of the ground cable connections in the engine bay and by the ABS controller. I did this to my R53 the other night and it made a world of difference. All of those systems have computers that control them and clean/good voltage/grounds are very important.

How does the car drive? Any performance issues?
