Heater is not hot.

I drove my cooper for the first time in about 6 months. It was in the garage with a battery tricker. Well today I was driving it and turned the heat into "hi" but it wasn't getting hot, it was barely even warm. Any ideas on the issue?

Coolant leak. Check the overflow bottle to see if it's empty or low. If so, suspect the thermostat housing.

Need more information. What was the coolant temperature when you turned on the heater?

Your signature shows an 07. If that is the case, there is a good chance that the thermostat needs replacing. Both the water pump and thermostat are plastic and tend to crack over time, which creates a leak. The resevoir also can crack over time. Like stated above, see if your resevoir is low. If it is, top it off with the proper BMW/MINI blue coolant and distilled water.

If it is not low in the resevoir, there is a good chance that the thermostat has malfunctioned and would need to be replaced.

Do you do your own maintenance? There are how-to articles on both the water pump and thermostat replacement.

Have fun,
Mike

+1 most likely low coolant due to a leak.

See here for the thermo housing or the expansion tank.
