Strange Overheating Problem...
Hi everyone,
I just bought my 2003 Mini a few months ago, and unfortunately I have been having some problems. Just had the head gasket replaced last month and now this:
While idling at a stoplight yesterday, my temp shot all the way up within about 10 seconds. I turned the car off, and within another 10 seconds the temperature went right back down to normal. I pulled over and made sure all my fluids were okay, and they were. I drove home and temp was steady the whole way.
Again, today, I was in the drive through and while I was waiting, I heard the radiator fans turn on, and once they did, the temp shot all the way up again! So, I turned off the car, and the temp went right back down, just like before. Temp was steady after this.
I've also noticed that occasionally after I turn off the car, the radiator fans well kick on... maybe related.
Any ideas of what this could be?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip. I went to Mini and they gave me Part no. 17101475577 based on the VIN.
I do have a follow up question - If your suggestion is correct, which I do believe it is after further research, do you believe my car is in fact overheating? If not, why would a problem with the fan cause my gauge to give a false reading?
