Clutch pedal engage/disengage point

My 2011 R55 clutch pedal engages/connects the engine and transmission at the very top of the pedal travel. I think my previous (2012 R55) engaged lower down. Is this a cause for concern?

This is a concern only if the clutch is slipping.

Thanks! I did a measurement. The clutch pedal start at the very top. Goes 3/4" with little/no resistance. Then the clutch pedal is stiff. The clutch disengages very quickly when pushing further. The sensation is it disengagement is very very high. Sounds like no problem.

A high pedal engagement with a stock clutch usually means that your clutch is nearing replacement. You're basically having to take up the difference between flywheel & pressure plate hydraulically, instead of the friction material making contact earlier in pedal travel.

The good news is that Coopers use a single mass flywheel that you can have resurfaced for around $60 usually, then all you need is the clutch assembly and hardware, all of which we have on hand ready to ship if you decide to do the job or whenever the time comes.

I thought they were dual mass flywheels.

Yes from 2007 and up they are dual mass. The older cooper 2002 to 2006 used a single mass / solid flywheel.

G2 Coopers use a single mass flywheel.

Only the S uses a DMF.

it is a bit confusing, the part is described as dual mass, although the picture (and price) is obviously a single mass...
