Mine went at around 58K and no problems since. Dealership
charged me $350 'cause I was in a pinch. Way lower than alot
of these quotes out here. They told me it's not real common on
the 07's to leak.?^&*
Actually, my entire bill was $450 but that included brake fluid flush,
diagnosis, pressure testing of cooling system and had them check out
the entire car.
I had just bought the car and maybe put 1K on it.

My 11 Clubman with 19k on the clock just came back from the dealer...3rd sensor /housing combo w/in a year. Without a better explanation from the manufacture, I'll be replacing the cooper with a ford before the warrantee terms.. Sucks.

Replaced my thermostat housing on my 2007 Cooper S at 63,000 miles. I paid $107 for the thermostat and it took less than two hours to install.

Wow, that seems high. My Mini dealership did mine back at 58K for $350.
I guess it's the locality and pricing differences.
Does the independent give you a 2 yr parts/labor warranty? My dealership did so I was glad I had them do it. If it goes again, I'll do it because the part is only around $110.

My JCW clubman is in the shop right now 24K miles with low coolant. I caught it while I was doing the oil change between services. I had no idea the problem was this common. And couple a weak cooling system with a car that does not have a temp gauge and suddenly I feel like a sitting duck!. I'm going to start checking every week.

Update: They didn't find a leak afterall. Now I am worried about where the coolant is going. It is running too good to be a head gasket. I'll keep an eye on it. but strike me off the list for now.

Make that 2 thermostats. The replacement one failed last night. It's being replaced again.

had a CEL yesterday (Sunday) and dropped my 07 mcs off this AM to get it looked at and have them do the recall work done on the AUX h2o pump. turn out my mini thought it was super cold and was running extra rich. I have to admit that my MPG was down a couple over the last couple weeks and it seamed like my power was down also.

thermostat and sensor being replaced at dealership for $650.

we'll see how it goes after I pick it up tonight.

Replaced my wife's at around 80k miles, $80 part and did it myself in about 2 hours. 2007 MCS, Car has 117k now. That's the only repair it's had outside of warranty, but I'm about to change the baulky climate control unit.

2009 Clubman...at approx 25K had mine replaced. Cracked Thermostat housing. That was back in early 2010. Emma now has 95K and having a fluid level issue as well. probably 2 months now of keeping an eye on the overflow tank level. Decent size puddle on the floor from time to time as well(Blue).
Anyone have any experience in replacing the housing and or overflow tank? She's only run hot once back on the first replacement(Icon on dash). But since then no warnings. I guess its due to my consistent checking/adding of fluid.
Any comments welcomed!
Bob

Had mine done last year at about 32K miles at the dealer. They found coolant leaking and just changed it under warranty. I think this is going to be the next big issue that will be swept under the BMW rug like the death rattle.

Just diagnosed leaking cooling on my S with 82k. At first thought it had to be the thermostat housing, felt around, thought it was... but after looking closer the temperature sensor o-ring was leaking. The leak pools on top of the thermostat housing, and then runs down the seam in the housing. I was very close to ordering a new housing, before realizing the sensor o-ring was the cause. I've searched a couple of sites, and some of the pictures of supposed thermostat housing leaks really look like sensor o-rings to me. Ordered the part at the local BMW dealer for $2.

Mine leaked at ~70k. Did it myself (easy just a little time consuming and messy with the coolant). $130 for part, $20 fluid.

"Check Engine" light came on, had it checked, turned out to be a Thermostat fault. I have 16500 miles on it. Warranty! They also added a adapter of some sorts too.
But has anyone been noticing after a drive, that the fan would come on, where normally it wouldn't, given the same driving conditions?

Can anyone show me where the Thermostat resides?

Temperature Sensor was the culprit on mine as well.

I replaced the thermostat housing myself, along with the sensor and coolant flush back in May with roughly 50k miles. I couldn't tell if I had a crack in the housing or not, but I always had coolant residue around the temperature sensor and was topping off the coolant reservoir since 14k miles. Just a few ounces every month or so.

If you can diagnose your leak to just the temperature sensor like chockrl did, you can save at least $115 plus one hour and forty-five minutes of shop time.

I give this project two out of five wrenches in difficulty for the do-it yourselfer.

Got my 2007 MCS Thermostat replaced @ 80,000 after experiencing hard starts and studdering performance issues. This fixed all problems, car runs f'n awesome now!

Took it to Ralph Schomp in Denver and it was $600 total for the thermostat and a turbo pipe that had cracked - which resolved a boost cutting issue i was having.
