Why isn't this warranty?

Did you tamper with your lights?

I'm sorry but your story just doesn't make any sense to me. Assuming you car is still under warrantee and that this breakage was not a result of some type of collision, this should be a covered repair regardless of whether you hit a bump or not.

As I and several others said, your situation just didn't make any sense. This should've been covered under warrantee by the first Dealer. Glad you found a good Dealer.

If I were you I would let everyone on this forum know which Dealer (The Bad Guys) screwed you and which Dealer (The Good Guys) came through for you. That way the people here will know who to do business with, and who not to do business with.

I have this EXACT problem- thanks for posting this OP. Broken plastic inside the housing causing the projector to be loose.

Hopefully its covered under the MINI NEXT warranty as I am out of the regular standard warranty. fingers crossed.

I would start writing an informative letters to owners of the dealership. Maybe start slamming them on Angie's list(does anybody actually use that?) and ofcourse venting here lol. We shall out alot of cake for these cars which apparently average for every 100 cars sold there are 150 trips to the dealer for service(i wish i could still find source where i got that).. So putting up with these cars quirks would be alittle less stressful.. It would be nice if some of the Service Advisors I encountered would admit to some of these known flaws and be honest.. Their job seams to be make the dealership money first then take of the customer.. grant it if you have a history with multiple cars from one dealership you problably dont have any problems.. But some of us N00bs seam to not be so fortunate. I would love to continue this vent going into a little more detail but i dont want to be banned....

update - not covered under mini NEXT warranty

My dealership, East Bay MINI, would not cover this fix under my extended warranty plan. They indicated that if I were under that regular new car warranty, it would be covered. But I am at the 5yr mark on my extended which is apparently a reduced coverage warranty compared to the new car one.

The cost to replace a xenon headlamp assembly (Which is what they told me was the only thing that can be done for this problem) is about $1300. I'm not willing to pay that for something that "failed" on me (they recognized it was a failed part). I did nothing to cause this to happen.

When I got home I went ahead and removed my headlight assembly and even FOUND the broken part within the light. I almost think I can line it up right and glue it together to keep it in place. The wobble is not that bad as is so right now I'm not doing anything to it.

Bum deal.

I think this situation might not make sense to a lot of people, which including me previous. However, until yesterday when I drove my car on the freeway, then I hit a "BIG" pot-hole on the driver side front and rear wheel at about 68mph, then all the sudden I found my driver-side headlight is not aiming correctly, and pointing to the ground.

I found that's some similar case happen to other members in here, so I guess this is just a not very reliable, and robust materials that they use for the Mini cooper head lights.......

We've just encountered this exact problem with our right Xenon projector. The right one burned out, and when i went to replace the bulb, i noticed that the projector gimbal was loose and rattling around inside the housing. It looks like the same part has snapped. I attempted to glue it with epoxy, but it failed, so now i'm looking at replacing that little part. There's no point in putting an expensive new bulb in if it's going to get rattled around and break again, y'know?

Would anyone happen to know the part number for this piece? Thanks for any info!

Internal structures of the headlights are not a separate part , but a whole unit. Bulbs , headlight rings, rear cover caps , mounts hardware for the main housing, ballast, are the separate parts. You will need to know what bi xenon headlight you have ( clear indicators / clear lens amber bulb ) or ones with the amber lens. Depending on year application there are factory / Hella and Magneti marelli options. Thanks

But I do see a number part on the white part that is broke and sometimes I can track it down. Do you have another pic?

Here it is.

Right headlight, HID, orange turn signal lens.

Someone should engineer a better part for this. Metal – or at the very least, glass- or carbon-reinforced plastic – would be way better than this flimsy plastic (nylon?) part.
