The airbag control module seems to be in the center console, almost directly below the e-brake handle.

However, wouldn't you reset an airbag light by plugging into the OBD port in the drivers footwell?

+1 to rkw's advice. Use the OBD port on the left of the driver's footwell.

The airbag module is under the carpet under the ebrake handle. I've never seen a tool for a MINI that plugged into the module??? But if you have one that plugs into the OBD port that should do it, as long as the airbag system doesn't have anything wrong.

If you need to remove the module (they can be reset 3 times if you have a 'hard' (crash) code stored in them), be prepared for a bit of work: remove the center console around the shifter, and the one around the e-brake, then both front seats, and pull up the carpets. The module is midway between the shifter and e-brake, and held in with two 10 mm nuts...you'll have to snake your hand in under the carpet and the substantial soundproofing foam with a wrench and try not to drop the nuts into the abyss. After looking at my situation for a long time, I did this: I removed the consoles, but not the seats, used an X-acto knife to carefully cut the carpet and foam in a nice straight line in the center of the trans tunnel, pulled back the carpet/foam to reveal the module. To replace, I glued everything back down...the scar is barely noticeable.
