What is this stuff on my engine?

Hi everyone,

I was under the hood tonight poking around and noticed liquid puddled up on top of my engine. It appears to be leaking from the Alta intake? What is this stuff? Coolant? Why is it there? Thanks for the help!

Could be cosmoline I guess...I thought most of that burned off long ago. I did check it out and it does not seem very oily. I thought at first it was oil from the Alta foam (although I wiped lots off before installing). I just had a service so I wonder if they spilled something and this is leftover?

Its oil from the filter. The foam filter is oiled and the heat from the engine will make a small puddle like in your pict. Just wipe it off

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it was just the filter oil...the weird thing is it has been on the car for a year without any oil coming out. I wonder if the tech at the dealer would have re-oiled it last week when I was in for maintenance? I doubt they would have serviced an after market intake but you never know.

Yeah, I would agree. It's from your Alta "hot" air intake.

Now that I see it's an oiled filter it's gotta be...
