PF16 fault after i hit a puddle

This is not the fisrt time it has happened but I was wondering if anyone has hit a puddle that is any where from 1" to lets say 4" deep and have their check engine light and traction control lights come on the engine also bogs down. I hooked up my code reader and puled a pf `16 fault and can clear it everytime so far. I was wondering what can cause this and part is effected. I have lifed my hood and inspected for water invasioon and have found non and where but the few drops that hit the hood scoop. Any ideas

NECRO'D!!!

Hey this happened to me. Almost exactly word for word. What is pf16 though? I did throw a code, but my guy said it reported something about the throttle body. I told him what happened and he cleared it.

He wanted to block the front intake and allow the air to come from the back of the engine. He also mentioned that he has heard of a case where the engine was killed from excess water from a huge puddle.

Anyways, seems to run fine now (did not do the modification he suggested yet, but I do have the JCW intake modified for flap open always).

Anybody else have something similar to report?

One to four inches of water is pretty deep...more than many folks have for ground clearance if I read it right...you call that "Boating". This is pretty dangerous in a mini, especially since so many cars have had engine failures from water injeesten..(like huge holes in the side of the block)...if you go through a Huge pond of standing water, and have a very open CAI...it is a possible disaster!!
Now if you are talking about 1/4 inch...this should not be an issue.

The intake being right behind the grill & almost no front overhang makes the MINI very susceptible to hydro-locking. Get a big bow wave going & bang goes the engine. The water ingested can not be compressed & something has to give.
