The throttle response in my 08 mini cooper vert is unbearable. In addition to the engine not revving up all the fast to begin with, the throttle response is so ridiculously slow.
The thing that particularly interests me is the throttle response around 1st and 2nd gear (6-speed manual). It seems much slower than the other gears. But this is just a theory. I'm not quite sure the throttle delay is related to speed, gear selection or other. I'm pretty sure it's not in relation to RPM as this was one of my first thoughts, but still it seems that in first and second gear, there is much more lag than the other gears.
One test for the RPM theory I did was going from about 1/3 throttle to full throttle in 6th. Acceleration wasn't very fast, but the sudden increase in acceleration was definitely noticeable. Reaction time of the engine was very fast. Then I try doing the same thing except in 1st and 2nd gear, and both times the engine response was sooooooo slow.
Does anybody have some more specific info about this?
My problem is that it makes heel-toe downshifts, like when getting off the freeway, nearly impossible to make consistent. Gears 3-6 are great to rev-match between and I can do so quickly and smoothly. But usually for that last shift when coming to a stop, which is a 3-2 shift when on the street, it's so hard to get the rpms right. Initial response is really slow even when I floor the throttle, and then it suddenly shoots up. So it takes a long time to do the rev match, and I either over shoot it or under shoot it. HELP!
I don't have any personal experience with it, but the reviews are generally very positive. It might be worth looking into.
Yes, I'm familiar with it. I did a little searching prior to making this thread and the sprintbooster was probably the most frequent result I got. The sprintbooster is also an item in the late model BMW crowd, which I am also a part of.
The sprintbooster seems like it would help, but also at the same time, seems like it covers up a larger ecu tuning or mechanical "obstacle". Also I'm somewhat fearful of it not fixing my problem and just making the throttle more touchy.
