whistle noise?

I have a 2003 stock/base model cooper with cvt. Lately i have noticed a whistle which seems to be coming from the engine bay. The whistle starts at about 30mph and ends at about 60mph. Also, it only does it when i accelerate. It stops once i release the throttle. Any ideas?

if you have a cold air intake, its just the extra noise being let through the intake. the whistle comes from the air moving past the throttle body at part throttle.

No cold air intake, just the stock air box.

I hate to even say it.... CVT.
Sound only during accleration, goes away at a steady speed....I really hope I am wrong, but I would get it looked at.
I hope it is a true whistle...but a high frequency buzz sounds very similar....

Wouldn't the CVT make a whine or groan type sound if it were going bad? Thanks for any input.

This reply is mostly a bump to give someone with a CVT a chance to reply.
So the sound seems to be speed related....is it engine speed...same rpm, or is it road speed related??
Is this a sudden change that just started, or has it always been there?

It is road speed. It doesn't do it at idle, just during the 30-60mph range. The frequency is higher-pitched the faster I go. If I let off the throttle just a little, the whistle goes away. Hope that helps, Thanks.

its from your throttle body. its normal, nothing to worry about. mine did the exact same thing. I recently took my throttle body off and cleaned it and now the whistle is gone.
