Paint Issues (Dark Silver)?

My MINI's got less than 6,000 miles on it - picked it up brand new in late May.

Yesterday I noticed paint chipping on the tail edge of the driver's side door (see pic below - sorry about the quality, camera's getting repared so all i have is my mobile).

I have NEVER hit my door on anything, and no one has ever borrowed my car, so that can't be the cause of this happening. Plus, it occurs from the bottom to the top of the door, which is curved so all of it couldn't have made contact with something simultaneously.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something that might be covered under my warranty?

Also, I'm about to head into a Boston winter - is this something that needs immediate attention to stave off rust/other problems?

I appreciate the help - you guys all rock and this forum has been such a lifesaver for me.

Pic:

(I know the paint looks f*cked overall in this pic but its just the scratched lens on my phone/the rain getting in the way - it's actually perfect everywhere but the door edge)

Not the best pictures but it sure looks like the door contacted something and that's probably what your dealer will say...

Yep, I've got exactly the same thing on my passenger door. It comes from opening the door and hitting something. In my case, we park in the right-hand end of a covered carport. My damage is from the rear edge of door hitting the wooden wall of the carport when the door is opened.

Apply some touchup and it will look perfect. Even if you were to blame the dealer and they said they would fix it, they would dab some touchup on there, hold the car for a day or two, then tell you its fixed.

Or they'll want to paint the whole door and guess what? They'll never be able to match the paint exactly with the rest of the car. Touch it up and leave it as is .
