Torque Steer mostly resolved

I recently picked up an '07 MCS with LSD
The car torque steered like crazy. On WOT it pull hard right in the lower gears. Every little bump under power caused change in direction (severe bump steer). Just didn't seem right.

It had the stock run flats with plenty of tread left but I really don't care for the feel of the RFs. I also did some reading here and some had said the RFs increase the torque steer but I never saw a definitive post (or couldn't find one anyhow) that stated it clearly could be solved with tires.
This post was the most helpful: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...77-post33.html
So I decided to try the easiest first and went with Falkens.

Torque steer is now negligible. I would have never believed there would be that much of a change in torque steer due to tires but there you have it.
Also much quieter, of course.

Just thought I'd add this to the forum for others who might search in the future.

The car is now much more fun to drive.

I agree. I too was surprised that just swapping to some $80 non runflats would make the car so much better.

Probably has to do with the higher inertia of RFT tires.

Dr O also mentioned in another post about learning to be more smooth with the accelerator and that really is important as well.

When torque steer starts just dial out a little steering and/or breathe the accelerator. DO not jump off the accelerator!

Lift? Never!

There really is no issue now. Very driveable.

Great to hear.

The FWD drive is quite different from the P-cars you have. I have tracked both and TTO is a regular technique the FWD drivers use to reposition a car which I would not in a P-car.

Have fun in the Mini.

Yes, very different!

RWD and rear engine vs. FWD and front engine.
Still fun, just different.

I suppose I will do a DE with the Mini eventually to play with the FWD dynamics. Based on the road feel, it should be fun

I understand, I used to run a 997 and a Lotus Elise on the track. I may go back one of these days. Lots of things to remember not to do on the rwd.

I wish I had bought a u.s. spec gt3 instead of a euro spec. I use it as my nurburgring beater

My viper spends most of its time at sebring and daytona .

My Jcw will go to my daughter when she turns 16 .

Everyday drivers are 2010 hyundai genesis coupe trackpak and a merc C63.

hmm...

so, I converted my 97 turbo to 2WD... ala GT2.

Much better steering feel!
Before the change I liked the car but the understeer was pretty dissatisfying.
Also didn't like the way the "AWD" transferred power to the front. Long story and technical but it is very unpredictable in these early AWD cars.

Now I love it.
